LOL yeah, my Australian slang mini dictionary didn't have anything for "police" and I wasn't sure if you called them cops or popo like we do...

Glad to see you say "taking the **** out of" as well... I knew the Brits say it, wasn't sure about the Aussies, so I just took a chance and used it

East 26th isn't too bad--- it's a couple dozen blocks south of the really scuzzy areas around East Hastings, Broadway, etc. And it's not too far from either the skytrain or Kingsway (the main route into downtown from New West.

But it's not what you'd call ritzy by anybody's standards. Another area you may want to consider is North Burnaby. It's east of East van and to the north, and has some excellent views--- if you can afford them.

If you want a blend of rasonable affordability (by Vancouver standards, at least) and a nice neighborhood with a great view, nearby beaches, etc. look for something in Kitsilano on the south side of False Creek. From the shore to just past Broadway is a great little community, sort of like the artsy section of the West End but in low-rises not high rises

if your looking to get into more the hospitality end head up to whistler area. I think Interwest employees 90% of the Aussies that come to Canada between most of thier thier ski/sport resorts.. At very least you'll be able to make connections with the Aussie work network over here.. They seem to have this uncanny way of knowing where an aussie body needs to fill a spot..
