I have a bid on a FD in auction tonight. I will find out late tonight, or early morning if I get it. I have been in several debates with users in this forum, so once I do win a bid on a car in auction I will be creating a new thread and post each and every expense that I go through to get the car into Canada as I am importing the car myself.

The solenoid rack and resevior on the left and right side near the firewall, seems reversed on the JDM fd's.

jdm cars are very different

i didnt read every post but
i have a 89 and 92 JDM RHD 7
plus 12 other odd 7s

and i am continually surprized by small differences

the wiring is different
in colors in connectors

the emmissions is different in a couple ways

the rhd spefic stuff
wipers and motor and cowl
brake booster master cylinder and ABS
power steering rack and sub frame have differences
the jdm cars all have back seats the drivers window switch is RHD specific
LHD unit will work the wrong window but it WORKS !
if it has a radio it will only go up to 89 mhz on fm
the power is different very noticable
faster
a jdm car has a hole in the rear bumper cover at the tag mount and has a swing away tag mount so at speed you cant see the tag

the lights are US DOT if they come to us
IE the side markers that dont appear in north america are not stanley DOT

the trans is different as is the rear end gear
the jack and spare can be different but can be the same
jdm cars seem to weigh more
the brakes in back are different on some models bigger than ours

it goes on and on you will find out

all that said
most north american parts will fit the car and replace JDM parts just fine
and you dont have to figure out how fast you are going like i do
im all ways trying to convert km to miles an hour

it will be very cool mine are very fun and cause some attention

awsome thanks alot, im sure i will find out alot of differneces once i get it and work on it. im glad that they were smart enough to make the domestic parts the same for jdm for most of the parts, it will make it alot easier and a bit cheaper for fixing it up.

the DOT headlights is mainly against SKylines (GT-R's) to be more specific.. they are trying to slow down the amount of GT-rs being brought in by that...

funny thing is..

as of feb 10th i have my second personally imported car ariving in New Westminster.. i just got an email today... saying the boat left on the 27th:P

and i'm in a spot for cash too... oh well i'll make it work... any one wanna go to Van with me? lol...

its a 1989 Camaro with 8X,xxx kms... it was an "impulse" buy if i can sell it for a small profit i would be happy.. i just want it sold once its here..

I understand the fifth gear ratio is a little different.
The ratio for the Japan model is 0.806:1.
The ratio for the North American model is 0.719.
However, it seems the final drive is the same 4.10:1

Sorry to thread jack...

I've had this question for a while...Could you buy a 99 FD today and replace the 5mph bumper (jdm) with a 3mph one (USDM) and drive it tomorrow?
