My coolant alarm will not stop buzzing even though there is ample coolant, tried to disconnect the wire to the guage cluster but that eliminates tach, speedo, etc. so not an option, does anyone know of another way to fix this? or stop the noise? any advice is welcome. Thanks,

 

Check all the wire connectors and continuity from the coolant level sensor to the body harness....

 

Mine was sensitive too. Must have had a small leak somewhere. I had to over fill it to shut it off, but a month or so later it would return and I would have to add a bit more. It didn't look like much either, about an 1/2 inch low.
Your car likely has 2 rad caps. One on the rad and one a littler higher up on the hose that connects to the rad. Open both, fill the lower one till overfull, cap it then add a little more to the higher one. That should keep the sensor happy, if you have a bit of air pockets.

 

On an FC you have to ground the wire going to the sensor to shut it off. Maybe it's the same on an FD?

 

Yup it is....Sensor uses the coolant as a ground, so as long as it has coolant the buzzer will not sound...no coolant buzzer sounds, I would guess the wire is broken some place just like most 15 year old FD harnesses.

 

Thanks guys for the info! is there a way to actually disable the buzzer if this doesn't work? couldn't tell where the sound was coming from.

 

Ground the wire that the sensor plugs into at the body harness.... black single plug under the power streeing pump

Bleed the system? Might want to try that before you go and disable it.

 

I would also suggest you fix this properly as well...

I am having the same problem, the car was partially disassembled and i finally got it running tonight and the coolant alarm wont go off. Is this sensore connected to the power steering pump directly? Is there a picture available?

A:No

If you just put the engine back together it takes atleast 3 heat cycles to get all the air out of the system and will require topping up each time.
The coolant level sensor wire plugs into a black connector on the large body harness that is located under the power streeing pump.
