Colin Mcrae - R.I.P.
I came home today from a weekend of errands to check my e-mail to find a friend (in scotland) had e-mailed me on saturday that on saturday afternoon, Colin Mcrae's Helicopter crashed returning home.
This is a bit of old news by now, but I posted this because this affects me a little more than the average death and I thought I'd share it with all the other racing fans out there.
I grew up watching this guy obliterate everything we knew about Rally and Racing. He will no doubt be remembered as a real champion.
1968 to 2007. R.I.P.

A Champion's Champion and he left us far too young. There are some tribute vidoe compilations on YouTube that will leave your jaw on the floor. One of the world's greatest drivers of all time...
Sad sad news.
He was such a great driver and personality who never seemed to lack enthusiasm or drive. After doing a couple WRC events last year for Skoda and replacing Loeb, he was even considering a limited schedule again next year. Seeing his car control and commitment was always a treat, and he'll be missed for sure.
What's a bit creepy is that on the same day, David Richards (McRae's old boss at Prodrive Subaru) had a helecopter crash as well. He and his wife however escaped uninjured.

I remember the first time (and only) I ever seen Mcrae drive in person was on tour in france. I just so happend that we were somewhat travelling by some of the stages. My scotish friend I was with was a rally buff so he had the scoop on where it was. The first car that I seen was him, and it was just perfect.
The sun was cresting the hill and it looked like out of the sun came Colin, flying over this little hill. He was going so fast that every bump all 4 wheels came off the dirt. He did two donuts at the hairpin we were standing at and took off with enough time to still win the race.
That will stick with me for the rest of my life.

In other news, Author Robert Jordan Died today. He wrote the wheel of time series of fantasy/sci-fi books. Now the series will never be finished.
I hate to say it, but whos next? Tiger Woods?

yeah this is quite unfortunate. he was much younger that a lot of people think, probably because he has been passionate in the sport for such a long time.
definitely will be missed.
also worth mentioning is his 5 year old son was also lost in the crash. so a very hard time for their family.
thanks for posting those vids.
