Typical BS from the world of politics.
"typically use in street racing" - stereotyping
"just this summer the parents of a young girl were killed with a RHD vehicle" - pulling at your heart-strings, hundreds of parents of hundreds of kids are killed via LHD vehicles a year.
I hate news, I hate politics.

Solution: Allow us to buy the same cars here in a left hand version for a similar price. But we can't and they won't so they want to ban them instead. Greedy buggers, seem to think they can tell us what we want to buy and drive and not allow us to pick cars outside our market.
Kind of like how most dealerships in the US aren't allowed to sell a Canadian a new car, because they will get a better deal for the same car.

Pretty much. Canadian Automobile Dealers Association is responsible for that article. It obviously has nothing to do with safety, and more to do with playing off of biased and exaggerated statistics. They simply are for the banning of right hand drives, because you are giving your money to Japan or some other foreign country, rather than them (the local dealers).

it was just a matter of time before this ban was to happen whether it will actually happens; time will tell. in quebec it was banned primarily because the dealers were complaining about losing money and also the gov't complaining about too many high speed 2 lane high-way accidents.
obviously it doesn't help that people are drifting the damn cars rhd or not, on busy streets in downtown ottawa and claiming that they had lost control and dont know what happen. complete bs. but anyhow it just makes it more difficult because eventhough this ban is biased towards rhd vehicles ultimately it make it more difficult for anybody driving a slightly or heavily modded car.
it sucks driving and ahving to always be looking behind you worrying about being pulled over even for these 'routine' checks. my 2 cents

Lot of noise, but the CADA has been campaigning for this for 5 years, and it is a load of rubbish, about not a lot of cars, but they don't like having to compare with foreign market prices, and realize you can get a lot more car down in the States - or Japan. Not to discount that they could catch a sympathetic ear in Ottawa - after all, many US dealers are no longer allowed to sell new to Canadians, but that was complaining within the industry that got that done. BMW's from the US, sold new and used much cheaper, are much harder to import before the 15 years are up, because the BMW dealers lobbied their US distributor to stop issuing documents to RIV to say which US BMW's comply with Canadian regs, so now all kinds of BMW's previously authorized prior to the change require a $1500 "inspection" from a Canadian BMW dealer to certify them. Dirty dealing in the auto industry knows no bounds.
Write a letter to your MP. Join groups protesting. I'm not a fan of RHD particularly, but I am a fan of cool cars, and don't want to see them restricted - and some competition would do our automarket good, we still get raped on many new vehicles relative to US pricing, which carries on into the used market also.

Any talk about a type of automobile killing too many people in Ontario is bullshit anyways since statistically we have the safest roads in ANY jurisdiction anywhere in North America.
Meanwhile, our insurance rates are amongst the highest anywhere in North America as well Oh also, our auto insurance fraud/ lack of auto insurance stats are also amongst the highest; at about 70,000 infractions annually, including motorcycles. Yep, gotta love politics.
