car audio in Toronto area

trying to upgrade the stereo in the wife's 99 civic hatchback. she already has an alpine 9811 deck that she likes so we are keeping that....

i figure she just needs some decent front speakers, and amp and maybe a 10" sub in the hatch....

i go to ******un-named stereo shop here ***** and end up talking to three guys who all have a different story and different prices for their stuff.... i say i can go up to $1000 which should be MORE than enough for a simple upgrade and the price they come back with is $1200 plus tax..... $@%@$#@

anyhow... i haven't looked at car audio much in the last 3 years or so and i don't know what's good out there these days... what do you think i can put together for under $1000 installed... she listens to heavy stuff like metallica, rob zombie, BLS, Ozzy etc... and needs a smaller sub because she needs the space in the hatch...

any suggestions ??

i know it's a civic but the concept is similar to the RX-7

i would definatly swap out the front door speakers and back ones.. my buddys 02 honda civic coupe has such cheap window stripping the speakers were actually wet when we took them out! not sure if you would have the same prob, but think about poly around you new speakers when you put them back in. also 4 channel amp and 4 good speakers is so overlooked(myself included). he bought infinity speakers all round and runs them off a sony deck. sounds great.. but the biggest improvement i heard in my stereo is the 4 channel amp. soo much more clear..

https://www.rx7club.com//showthread.php?t=381949

this was last year pics when i did my fc. the only reason i drag it back for you is my handy layout map i made. wire and connectors get expensive. help to get a good guesstamate of what youll need.

300/set for the infinity speakers, 200 for 300w amp, 100 wiring. and do it yourself yah niny! if you do want it installed, you dont have to go so high end on the speakers. but it really does help big.

good luck

i have found that you can find a TON of car audio for sale in toronto, at www.torontostreetracing.com

give it a try. quite a few people selling new stuff in boxes too if you don't wanna go used. probably stolen, considering some of the cheap prices i've seen. but who cares

lots of good used stuff too. i'll be looking there when im shopping for my stereo stuff that's for sure!

Whatever you do, buy your stuff from Oxford Sound Systems on Kennedy + Ellesmere. He carries very practical and high end stuff. I'm pretty sure he can beat out all the prices you've been quoted. worth taking a look at.

He worked my previous car up. PM me for exact address and stuff if you're interested.

Thanks for the help. I would be able to drive faster but my a$$ is too big (read as "heavier then yours")
I was in a rush when I wrote the message I didn't double check it.
Damn....my old age is starting to show.
I think I'll go back and read my "hooked on Phonics books"

Oxford audio Is very expensive, although I agree with you on the other points. I highly recommend you go to Canadian Audio Sound on Danforth/Eglington and see Andy.

hi guys, yeah it's me and yeah i still live in Aurora... (and i still have the Rx7 but it's in storage for now) i've been working too hard for the last couple years and it finally caught up to me, i've been pretty sick for a couple months now...stress can do funny things to you.. now that i know what's causing my troubles i should be ok..

anyhow the benefits of working my *** off are starting to do good things too, paid off my new Jeep and our current house and we bought a new house in the Stouffville area that will be done in Aug 2006.

how are you guys doing... I know MYBad got himself an RX8, NEO do you still have the FD ? and Silver- still got your 1stgen ? Anyone hear from that guy that showed up in Aurora that day with the pristine '85 ? i still think about that damn car and how perfect it was haha!

edit: oh yeah, guess nobody caught it in my previous post... i did figure out that fathers day is NEXT weekend... going to visit him today anyways

If your willing to wait I'll sell you my complete Kicker CVR 10 inch with custom box and 200.2 watt amp, it's great fo someone just looking for a little bump but enough to draw attention, I'm selling the whole thing for $300CAN I'm looking to save up for a really loud system. I won't have my car up here until August IF that, I spent $535 U.S for the whole thing. You can look up the CVR sub, it's one of kicker's best.

yeah that's the one! maybe it was an 83 or 84...

thanks for the kicker offer, it's for my wifes birthday which is in a couple of days... she gets a little strange if the present doesn't show up fairly shortly after... something about bad planning on my part haha!

i rescued the amp and bazooka tube from the RX7 yesterday... she's not looking to attract attention, just for better sound than she has now... the tube adds a bit of bottom end, especially in a hatch... maybe in aug i'll move up to the kicker if you still have it... or maybe one of the boxes from earlier in the post...

funny thing yesterday, when i was leaving my dad comes out with this video and say i have to understand that he's only 'lending' it to me... tunrs out its the atkins rotary rebuild video.. i had never seen it before... pretty cool! my dads turning into a rotar head! haha

Sophia: Phone is long gone.... haven't updated that page in quite a while.

Rxtasy: You remember that pristine car as well eh? I haven't seen it since that meet as well. As I said I'll measure those boxes for ya, even though they may be a little bit larger then what you are looking for. I need to do it to post up on the site anyways. Still got the GSL-SE?

if you do it won't likely be in the RX-7.... didn't pass the last emissions since it's missing the acv and i didn't realize the air pump was going directly into the cat full time since i had it installed so the thing is fried crispy..... it also needs brakes and suspension and despite my best efforts there is a nice spot of rust starting on the roof right in the middle of the windshield....

i don't have the time and my money is tied up in the new house and stuff for the Jeep so you just might see the thing for sale on here... should of got rid of it while people were still stopping me in the street with offers to buy it haha... everytime i go start it up and take it for a spin i think "man i can't sell this!" it's pretty bad..
