Not much to write home about. Pretty lame for the most part. Typical Calgary show. Jaymez's car is nice and super clean, RHD FC's don't do much for me, RHD car's in general don't get me going, unless it's something we can't get here, and is clean. WAY to many shitty rusty crappy RHD versions of cars I could buy if I picked upt he local bargain finder. I don't like the idea of putting a car in a show just cause it's RHD, but..... That wasnt directed at you archangels, your car seemed fairly clean.

The drag's were alright. Nice S14 with an rb26 and T51r Kai, some attention needs to be paid to the setup, because right now most of the power it lays down is useless, but it made all the right noises so. Zfan's 300zx is quick, fun to watch. Not much for Mazda representation. Gary was out in his supercharged 1st gen, didnt lay down very impressive times though, I probably left before his last run bit I think 15.3 at 59mph was the best when I left, congrats to him for running though, the rest of us left our cars in the parking lot. Couple of quick Honda/Acura entries, integra and civic hatch's in the 12's. Some quick mustangs also.

I don't care much for the autocross stuff so I didnt watch much of it. And the "Plow into the corner, mash the gas" I mean drift event is always stupid so I didnt even bother watching that nonsense.

I can tolerate those shows when they have the drag's, and other events going on, I refuse however to go the shows that just have all the cars sitting in some confrence hall.

My buddy owned Autocross in his Turbocharged 1.6L Miata. That car is incredably fast in any event.

One thing that bugged me was all these guys spend huge amounts of money on Horsepower and no money on traction. Lets watch the million dollar 240SX peel for 3 gears. Didnt clue in to get some slicks or even stickies on there. But damn those rims look good spinning at 120MPH out of the hole.

Or vice versa. Do you really think slicks help a stock RSX? Its got a loud muffler so it must be fast.

The 11 Second Civic impressed me, as did the 13 Second Supercharged(?) integra.

Steve's 2.3L Turbo Mustang owned the V8's.

Most of the guys were on drag radials, since slicks were not allowed according to the rules..
No civic broke into the 11's .. the 300zx was the only car to get into the 11's...
the integras that ran were turbo'ed, not supercharged... and they were in the 12's...

You've got to quit hyping up cars.. like the turbo'ed miata.. yes.. it did well in the autocross.. he was a very good driver.. I bet he could have been in any car and got great times.. however, a statement like "that car is incredably fast in any event" is just going to make you look silly .. what is "incredably" fast to you? is 15.3@89mph incredably fast? .. You did the same thing with 84stock's car.. you hype it up and went on about how "fast" it was... The car may be "faster" than a stock 84 FB, however it placed 2nd last in the qualifyings...

I think you could run slicks if you were in the "outlaw" class. But Chris is right the rest ran on drag radials or regular street tires. I also agree about the hype thing, Alak isnt the only one guilty of it, just the most recent. Those of us who have been around this forum long enough have seen more than a few people like that come and go, just the way it is I guess.

How would you define fast then? That Miata does the fastest in Autocross anytime I've ever seen him out, AND on top of that runs 12.1 1/4 Mile with street tyres at race city.

As far as Im concerned Anything in and lower than 13 is incredably fast IMHO.

I coulda swore the Civic ran 11.8. I know he was in the 12's. Maybe it was 12.8. I dont remember. And I was told that green integra was supercharged. But then again, what do I know? As for Gary's car, it would have been nice to break into 14's. We were aiming for 14.9 but we had to settle for 15.3. At least it was running better than it was at the dyno. As for him qualifying? We didnt even know it was a competition. We were just there to race ahaha.

I was also told that only the V8's couldn't run slicks. But I dont know any of the rules. I just pay admission and walk around learning about random crap.

John told me the fastest he had run was a 12.8???

Anyways John's miata is fast and a lot of fun, but not the fastest in the autox someone else holds that title

Tell me...... how does one "race" if it wasn't a competition? Would have been just a drive then? Test and Tune? Trial run? A race is a competition, simple as that.

So you were not there to compete, just to see how it runs? Fair enough, but don't give me BS about your were there to race and yet not knowing there was a competition as the name of the event was called Sport Compact Challenge.

He told me 12.1. Maybe that was on slicks and 12.8 was on street tyres? But I specifically remember him saying 12.1 quickly followed by Horsepower, which he said was around the 318HP mark. I remember that conversation intimately. That was accually before I seen his car. I thought he was kidding. I was like, ya right. Then it seen it go and it was like, wow. And it being small, it amplifies the visual effect of acceleration. He's cool though, I met him at a club tech session and he overloaded my brain with Turbocharging information and miata information. Its amazing how similar, yet different the Miata is from a 2nd Gen.

No really, we didnt know it was a full blown competition. Gary was racing and they told him to stop. He was like why? Then we found out and we were like Oh, okay.

He was there at the June 16th Miata track day? Impressive if he was. That Miata was pretty quick at the autocross, but so is your FD. Too bad the only time I got to see it was on a wet track at SS some time ago.

Only when compared to the rest of you old farts

It does seem however that every year brings a new batch of people, who are into the cars, have all sorts of misguided enthusiasm, and then as quickly as they arrived, they dissapear. Some sell their cars, some just vanish. As someone who was fairly young when they met the majority of guy's on this forum, and delt with the more knowledgable members here, the key was to keep my mouth shut, and my ears open. Once again I was never on the "Big List" but the majority of them were, so they've seen the new members with big turbo dreams, and even bigger mouths come and go, what they don't see very often is a new member who is willing to learn, and take it all in without an attitude.

Ahhh, the big list on majordomo I think it was. I still remember that, getting a crapload of emails per day. Funny thing is, barely anything has changed since those days, just in a forum format now. ReTED still loves to showoff his "knowledge" but yet never built a car that makes any power, Jim Labreck still doesn't have a running 95 FD3S but enjoying arguing with people, RX-7s being crashed when taken to a shop (memoerable one was Shiv's SCC FD3S being wrecked thanks to Joe Blow at Big O tire), newbies coming on asking basic questions that has been asked 100 times and are part of the introduction FAQ and part of the monthly updates, the saga of Gordon vs Peter Farrell (it's died down I think, was a super huge thread about it) and John Duff.........etc etc. damn, now I feel like an old foogie and I can't believe I remember most of that. Curse you memory!!!

Lots and lots of drama before and also now........... "As the rotor turns" indeed.

I still have an old PC in my basement full of 'big list' emails.
No way you could ever read them all.

That was back when I thought PSI was all about tire inflation pressure, and I would scratch my head wondering how this could have such an effect on 1/4 mile times...hehe...

..and do not forget rec.autos.rotary
