That looks like a really nice track. Nice and long too, if you run the whole thing

Ok, looks like the FD race car will be there lapping both days. Local Ottawa guys that haven't seen it this is your chance.

From what I understand you don't need any special license to do the lapping(for the non-race classes). It sounds like there will be some driving instructors present as well.

Sure looks sweet! Next year if my car runs well I'll be on the lookout for events.

I think it might actually be a good idea to make the saturday part of the Ottawa meet a "meet at the track" day type of thing. Those who just want to watch will feel just like the regular meet but as an added bonus those who want to get on the track can and all this in a closed, police-free, friendly environment. Food for thought anyway I guess.

this is something we've thought about, but getting the money in advance is the hard part. we'll see how much full day cost...

definetly sounds like a good idea. but, Jason is right. it's hard to organize track days and get the required amount of commitment before hand. but, that's just my glass half empty opinion.

oh, so i guess i will go sunday. are you guys planning on meeting somewhere before heading out to the track?
anyone else going?

That would be an awesome idea,

Show n shine then cruise to track , lap then food.

But as Jason and Aaron stated all comes down to how much to rent the track.

I called for some information and schedule for next year is not up yet.

But seems like it will be possible to rent it for 2 hours 20 - 25 cars .

and that would be around $ 60-90 depending on turnout ,wich isnt that much . And renting for a few hours might be more feasable for all.

Anyways my 2 cents.

Who went on saturday?

My dad took my nephew there and snapped a few shots. Got a neat one of a silver FD with red stripes - anyone here? I'll post the pic in a bit.

Nick- that FD is the race car that Nik helps work on. you can ask him about it for more info. pretty sick car.

so, drove to the track today for the sake of driving, and to check out the track and see some nice cars (there were plenty). i got a ride along with someone who knew what they were doing, and the track is wicked indeed. i wish i could have made it on track today with my car, but there is always next year i guess.

huge turnout, and a wide variety of race cars. rotary powered cars: 3 FCs, one of them being a P-port race car, the FD race car that Nik helps out on (which unfortunately had an incident blowing an oil line on-track), an AE86 with a Mazdees-built 13b in it, and i believe 2 RX-8s (maybe more).
and then dozens of Porsches (bunch of GT3s), a few Vipers, 2 Lotus Elises, BMWs, etc. etc. a bunch of Formula cars also, such as Formula Fords. it was cool seeing some of these cars do a sound-test (sound restriction is kind of strict at this track).

overall a good day. i'm sure the people who did lapping had tons of fun.

It was a good weekend for me, but an annoying one for the FD race car. The noise restrictions at Calabogie are ridiculous, and basically prohibit most race vehicles unless significant measures are taken to muffle them. They had sound checkers around the track, and would black flag people that were exceeding the sound limit. The race car got black flagged on every session except the one that they stopped testing for. The sound restriction is so low that a friend's car, a stock audi S4, passed by a margin of 2 dB. Supposedly some stock corvettes were failing.

The second day held an unfortunate incident for the race car, as mentioned an oil line came loose. The lack of oil resulted in the engine seizing up shortly after. An unfortunate way to go for an engine that took the abuse of a hard racing season without any problems.

It was a lot of fun lapping, and I learned a lot about the car. It's also a beautiful track, and unfortunate that more rx-7 people didn't show up. Those that didn't come really missed out...

I had a little incident too on the last session of the day, they removed the cones marking entrances and exits to turns, and that made it harder for me since I was relying on them as a reference. I was also trying to keep up to a little rusty red civic hatchback being driven by an instructor, and that was just not happening in the turns. Coming onto pit straight I took a bad line and hit the dirt with my wheels and almost spun around a few times, luckily I was able to recover. There is a video of it and i'll see if I can get it posted.

Definitly a Beatiful track, and seemed very demanding. 2 Long straight ways with 2 other straight ways and lots of turns.

Very nice track for sure.

I called to see if next year we could get a Rotary Track day , but seems all the weekends are already booked for 2007 . So might be a week day -(friday half day )or something. I'm waiting on scheduling and pricing for half days So well see.

If not tag along the GT3 and ferrari people :/
