check out the grannyskit for the vg30dett.
u could get 400hp with a fmic and boost controller running on a stock ECU w/ stock turbos. and gabe over at japanese imports has one for 1200$, i know cuz i was interested in the swap and was looking for a local engine. but than the cost came out to more than i really wanted to spend l0l, those lil things start to add up. anyways, u get v6 smoothness and torque, turbo noises, and nissan reliability. more power isnt always best, 320hp in a 2600lb car is just about perfect but im an idiot and thats my opinon, wat do i know |

320 hp in a 2600lb car is far from perfect...
I don't know how much I have right now, but it's more than that... and its nowhere near enough. |
^ get that damn thing on a dyno and find out then !!!
|
i knew you always wanted a nissan joe.
its about bloody time. welcome to a whole new world of unreliablility |
In all the vehicles, from BRAND NEW to modern to OLD, that I've owned - The Rx-7 was by far the most reliable.
|
that RB20-FC would be a fun car for sure, RB25 would be even better... but motor maintainence costs would own you in the long run.
any pics of the underside so we can see the subframe / oilpan issues? (I want a shop that big!!!!!!! freakin awesome!) you know you should get an RB in there and get it up and running, it would be cool at least and stilll a lot of fun, those RBs sound so sick at WOT. |
Joe, I wish i could do what you do. Haha, I am voting for the diesel swap myself........
and reliability? My 7 has been more reliable than any other car I have owned. (which have all been north american cars, go figure.) |

Like a VW TDI motor? That'd actually be kinda cool!
If you chip them and get larger injectors, with the Euro spec VNT17 turbo they put down over 200whp and who knows what for torque. And still get 1000kms to a tank! Dont ask me how I know all this about VW's lol. |
Diesel Vanagons had longitudinally mounted motors. And knowing VW, the block is probably similar, so oil pans, cooling elbows, etc. should be available.
THAT is the hard part about converting transverse to RWD: oiling and plumbing. The rest is a cakewalk.

Chipped and with light mods (nothing internal), VW TDI's can put down 400+lb/ft easily. I actually autocrossed a friend's stock Golf TDI at a local event last summer - even on the mushy stock suspension and cheapo street tires I got a pretty good time out of it, on pure grunt. Another one in SP run by a local did very well at nationals the year before.
All that said, the experience didn't compare to my rotary FC :D I too am fond of inline 6's tho'. Only problem is they tend to be heavy. Don't know about the RB motors tho. Looks like a nice fit. |
I actually test drove a new VW Jetta, an 06 with a 5 speed and TDI in it. I was amazed at the power that car produced. What it lacked in top end it really made up for in bottom end. For being a 3400lb car, that 1.9 Diesel really pulled the car around well. I think it had 100hp and 170 ft lb torque.

Sorry to bring this back from the dead BUT i was just about to give up looking for info on a FC rb26 swap when i came across this.
I know for sure the tranny tunnel will need some work, but other then that it looks like it fits. anyone have any other links or info on a swap that has been completed??? i already have a 700+ rwhp RB26 so the cost of the motor is not the issue. And i have an opportunity to get a really good cond turbo 2 for really cheap with a blown motor. i have everything i need to make it run just need mounts and a driveshaft and whatever else it take to get it in the car. More pics would be awesome. |
Boo Nissan motors in Mazdas.
|
Buy a 240sx.
|
The worst I've seen is a 1.1L Renault R8 engine in a first gen in Europe....At least they kept the displacement the same (and even that depends on which side of the fence you're on regarding actual displacement of a rotary engine)
|
+1 to that
|
:icon_tup: different strokes for different folks. Don't see an issue with the Nissan motor..................but if your going to SIN:nod: go all the way!
|
well said lol
