Bigger wheels on an FC.

Just a fast inquiry. Can I use a 17 " wheel on the FC that Has a 40 mm offset?.I know that the Regular 15" wheels have 40 mm offset.Just want to make sure Nothin is going to rub.I Plan to put on apex lowering springs with this set-up on too..I am going to say the Rubber will be 245/45/17..or there abouts..Thanks guys..appreciated..STYX!~

Your tire width (not the wheel size of 17") will probably be a problem on the front. I have 17X7 wheels with 38 offset, and a 2mm space...and the tires at the front just clear my coilovers. Admittedly, the coilovers intrude a little more into the wheelwell than stock, but the tires are only 225 wide, so I still don't think your 245's will fit up front.
Have a look at the Official Wheel Fitmeant thread in the 2nd Gen section. It's many pages long but there's lots of good advise there. Check out the replies from ReTed.

The alternative is to go for wheels with lower offset i.e. 35, to move the wheels a little more outboard and away from the suspension bits. There's a limit there too as you start to get into the wheelwell lip. You're anly going to be able to compensate with spacers up to maybe 5mm before your wheel studs effectively become too short and you have to change them.

I meant the "Suspension, Wheels, Tires Brakes" Section...not the 2nd Gen section for the FC Wheel Firment thread

They won't fit. The biggest you can fit in front without getting drastic is about a 235/40/17, and not all of them fit on all cars, a safe fittment is a 225/45/17 on a 17x8 with a 30mm offset.

A 245/45/17 is too tall, and with the 40mm offset it'll hit the suspension for sure.

With a 205/50/17 you have a lot of flexibility, anything from about 40mm to about 20mm should fit.

I'd reccomend going wider though. A 17x8 30mm offset with a 225/45/17 is a good combo, and there's lots of selection of tires in that size.

Cat out of the bag ..It's a Set of Eclipse Wheels(MItsubishi) The five thick spoke version..they are 17" and have a 40mm Offset. On them are 205/50/17's and I can get them for a Decent Price. If I was buying everything separate,I would be gettin a set of 17" wheels,8 inch and would run 225/45/17's all around so I could rotate the tires.I hate Staggered.TO Me,it's a waste of Rubber.

on the street I am running 235-40-17's on the front of my 10AE, I have NO idea what offset my wheels are...

I run 245-45-16 R compounds on all 4 corners without them rubbing on the stock wheels.

I'm running 215/45 R17 on my 87 gxl. The tires fit fine. But if you are going to lower the car and have a harder suspension, you may fine the low profile tires don't give you much flex and all roads feel choppy.

Also, don't Eclipse rims bend easy? All the more reason to avoid a low profile tire.

If I had to do it again, I'd choose a 16 inch rim with a little more sidewall. 225/50R16 is what I'd try, next time.
