August 31st Race Report

For the 1st time this year the ABR / Scarboro Mazda Racing team had a good race weekend! The car ran perfectly and my crew was awesome considering they had to crew 2 cars when my friends crew didnt make it for his 1st race weekend ever. We started the Sunday morning race at the back of the 39 car field because we didnt race on Saturday and the 1st few laps were interesting to say the least. I was very patient letting everything sort out before using my Mazmark power to get by a whole bunch of people up the back straight, then went to work trying to move through the field. After 20 minutes we went from 39th to 9th. In Sunday afternoons race the car was again flawless and we raced hard to go from 9th to
3rd it was our 1st podium in a few years. We also went faster than we ever have before and ran a 1.36.894. Everything worked well all weekend and my crew chief Chris James and crew Curtis, Jeff, Jody and Joshuas hard work really paid off, they gave me a great car to drive. Thanks again guys!!! The Can-Saf 3 Rotor was bullet fast Sunday morning in the GT2 race, I think Curt ran a 1.29 which is amazing!! I know they broke something, but god that car is a missle!!

Yes, good job. You where the last rotary running on Sunday!!! Next time I'm bringing special ear plugs just for your car

We had ignition, then boost, then lose turbo, then rear diff problems. Rough weekend.

Cansaf broke their diff, I believe.

ya it was a bad weekend for most cars out there. The weather was great for a change. We think the diff let go but once we get the car up in the air to check every thing well know forsure. Maybe we will take the muffler off for the next race again, it sure is loud but saves 50lbs.

It definitely sounds a bit like the 787B, especially on startup.
I'd say the CanSaf car is probably the best sounding car in the GT sprints...or CCTCC for that matter.

Ian to me that is qualifing! You only get the trophy for your finish in the last race Sunday, so Saturday doesnt mean anything unless your running for the championship. Besides, I cant qualify to save my life (lol) my in car vids are up I will try and post them below.

Imagine what it could do with a turbo or one more rotor???? (lol) The car truly does pull like a freight train with the right gearing in the transmission. The big difference is the last half of the back straight. You can hear and see it never stops making power.

ON August 31 race weekend car # 117

Thanks to John, Ian, Nik and Patrick for all their hard work on the weekend. We had 2 different wiring problems - a loose ground under the dash, and a short in the ignition side- lost boost in the one race we managed to get into, lost the turbo and blew a diff. Other than that it was a good weekend, we didn't run out of beer. The diff is out of the car as of last night, as is the turbo. We have a replacement turbo and a replacement 4.1 diff but are looking for a 3.9 as I was running out of revs on the back straight. We should be good to go for the Sept. 13th race weekend.

It's nice to see that all of the rotary guy's can help each other at the track and that the majority of the people at these events are great. Always makes for a good weekend.

As one7one mentioned we didn't run out of beer but certainly had our work cut out for the team. But that's racing and we live to battle another weekend.

One day another rotary will hopefully join in in the fun.

Ian should stop going home to his wife, and just camp at the track with us, so he can drink more beer and watch our giant fires.

Yes, the good thing about the weekend is that we didn't run out of beer , not even on the way home....although the car did come loose on the trailer a few times
