Any interest in turning fast?

Hi All,

We, Q-Rack, are thinking about making a test Quick steering rack for an 87 RX7. It would for sure take a few months to complete. We are just wondering if there would be any interest getting in on it. We are not even sure if there are any quick ratio racks available on the market for your cars.

In the past, we only manufactured racks mostly for Subaru cars and have been in business for 5 years.

Our website is www.Q-Rack.com and as for now we have no parts for Mazdas

I know alot of First gen rx-7 people who want a decent rack for their cars. You might want to post in the general forum for first gens to get some more info on that.

Problem is we are all to cheap to buy a good rack. Respeed makes an excellent kit for the FB.

Well there's already 5 options really. There's the stock manual 20:1 rack, then there's the two different power racks, the 17.4:1 that came in S5 NA's and the 15.2:1 power rack that came in everything else with power. Then one can reasonably easily convert either power rack to manual.

So for manual you can have the easier and slower 20:1, the middle ground 17.4:1 or the faster and harder 15.2:1, which seems plenty fast to me.

damn i was looking for something like this last summer! haha
i would definitely be interested, but i don't know if i would still have an RX-7 this coming summer.

would this be a power or manual rack? a manual rack gets a little tricky to use when the ratio gets low, but unfortunately the power steering units in our cars aren't all that great, especially after so many years. the Subaru units are really nice, are those all power assisted applications?

the stock 15.2:1 rack actually is not too bad, but only certain models of power-steering cars came with them, so it's a little annoying to have to retrofit that to work with the other models.
a drop in unit for power steering cars with about the same ratio, or maybe as low as 13 or so, would be great i think.

anyway, good to hear stuff like this being considered for the 2nd gen RX-7...

I really meant Q-Rack, the stock 07 Subaru Impreza STI. Steering ratio is 15:1.

Our slower rack is 12.5:1 ratio and this is the legal limit in Rally cars. Our faster ratio is 11.5:1 and there are lots of street cars out there equiped with them.

All these Racks are power only.

ah, i see.

hmm, i think i would be interested to see how a 12.5:1 power rack behaves. unfortunately this is a bit of an issue for cars that don't come with the 87 power steering system, unless you would be making them for the other ones also?
would pricing be similar to the subaru racks?

On that particular 87 I will put a power steering pump on to help with the steering for that ratio. If there would be enough interest of course we would consider offering it for the third generation all the way up to 08 cars. We would not like to compete with the existing Mazda market but as we are located in Canada maybe just offering it to Canadians. When we started making Racks for the Subaru, the first 15 Racks were offered for only $500 CAD. At that time, our competition were selling them for $8,000 CAD.

so the power steering unit you will be using is not the one that comes with the car?
i was referring to other 2nd gen RX-7s because different years/models came with different pumps, would this rack+pump fit in any of them?

We would make it a direct bolt on and complete system that should be easy to install
