Advice on buying a blown t2?
#28
I would stay away for $3000 and bum engine the body better look like it rolled off the show room floor i mean zero rust. I paid around that for my vert absolutely zero rust not even any surface rust on the exhaust components.
What you cant see on the ground it 10x worst on the hoist. The ad clearly said it was in mint condition and it's not. Do not buy this car you will regret it.
you can buy a running car in great shape for about $1000 more and fix it up the way you like it.

well, went over, took a look at the car, and its pretty clean. theres some random rust spots the size of a dime, the front bumper has a small dent on the front corner of it, the doors/door frame is clean, underbody has very little rust (small dime sized patches of rust on surface), and in general a pretty clean car. Tried to offer him 2500 for the car with the parts but i dont think he budged. Im thinking that if the car is still available next week, ill send him 2500 cash for it, and start reading up on rotary ressurections for rebuilds, emission removal, etc. any advice u guys can give me?

In all honesty, I've been reading these forums since 2007, borderline religiously hahaa. Recently my buddy bought a CLEAN '87 GXL and the plan was to do a refresh and engine rebuild over the winter (even though it didn't need it). the car just needed a very intensive tune-up and it would've been a proper daily. Anyways... After digging into this car myself I realized how much you really need to know in order to do something properly to these old cars. They need time, a descent amount, and cash
It's your money and your choice, no matter what anyone here says it comes down to you. But make sure you understand that it will be a helluva task.
p.s - theres always a few fc's for sale here or there. Take some time, look around, read the forums, look at a bunch of fc's that you find for sale. take your time and do it right, dont just hop in cuz the opportunity came up

ummm yes. LOL i am pretty retarded when it comes to something i like. If i can get it down to the right price i think i might go for it. I know someone in markham that does rotaries as well, his name is nigel. If anything from this car gets too hard to do, ill ask him for some advice, since he is like right next door to my garage.
lol if im buying it, im finishing it. i was planning to buy your tii last time i saw your post, but i didnt have the cash ready for it.
lol damnit, whats up with u people and wanting to buy this car? lol im assuming this car is worth it and you guys are trying to get it before i do? jk, go ahead and call him up if any of you are serious about this car too. and na? i cant do it. knowing that the idea of a turbo version is out there for me is too hard to bare...

ummm, i think im making the car seem worse than it really is... when i say there was rust, its not like a big patch around the wheel wells, its lierally like dots. the sunroof also has a couple of dots around it, and theres dots of surface rust on the underbody. its going to be hard to talk him down to 1000 for the car lol. hes including alot of stuff with the car aswell, random parts like handle assembly, 2 waterpumps, 91 tii irons (its basically 2 engines but like 1 of the irons from each motor cant be reused), interior peices, and alot more stuff. i really wished i went and saw the car with someone who knows alot about rotaries tho, cause i didnt know how to price the car out and look at specific things for the rx7.

I got into RX7s because of my Dad, my dad had an 83 GSL white, lowered with a body kit that made it look like a Porsche..I was like 3 or 4, and it was burned into my mind I've always loved RX7s ever since..Out of all the countless Camaros, Firebirds, Chevelles my dad has owned in my lifetime the RX7 stuck out the most. And the Rotary Engine is so fascinating, its such a simple design, its different, the sound is amazing.
I wanted an RX7 for my first car and what I got was a Sunfire, a great car. A bit girly, but it was reliable and I put a lot of Ks on it before it was toast. 2nd Car was my RX7 and its been a project for the last 3-4 years, still not completed and I've only driven it around the block.
What you need to remember a lot of the times your personal feelings will get in the way of your better judgement, don't just buy it because you like it. Twice now I've bought cars because I liked them and they ended up being piles of **** and i've been sinking money in them just to keep um going. I'm only 22 and I've learned my lesson, you should learn it now before you waste your money on piles of crap.

If the chassis is clean and your willing to have it as a project to fix up and make road worthy, get it. Most important part is a clean chassis, everything else is repairable.
20+ year old car will have worn out stuff on it, just make sure you understand that.

Hey, if you are still looking for a entry level RX7 to buy, have a look at this:
http://ontario.kijiji.ca/c-cars-vehi...AdIdZ351693348
If this is the same car I think it is, it was owned and garaged by an older gentleman who passed away. The family had it listed for $5k most of last summer; looks like they lowered their expectations.
You will be hard pressed to find another 7 with such low mileage that had not been abused by some kid. $3500 certified and e-tested (which it doesn't need anyways).

nah, i decided not to pick it up, realized it wasnt worth it. at the end it still had rust, it didnt run, and im not in the right situation to pick up the car. ill probably look for a s5 na when spring comes around, learn more about fc's, and eventually do a s5 jdm swap. but yeah thanks for all the help guys!
