ON Add Coolant Buzzer

Help, I have a 1984 Gs with a 12A and my add coolant warning buzzer(siren) keeps going off for no reason. I thought if I disconnected the coolant level sensor it would stop, it didn't. There is coolant and the engine isn't even warm. Sometimes it will stop and then start again after a time, for no discernable reason. How do I make it quit? Can I just disconnect it and if so how and where?

The level sensor is on the top of the rad. Check the wire coming out of it. Sometimes they can get frayed and the wire grounds out against the rad itself and causes a false trigger. If it's not grounding out there, then check the wire route and see if it's grounding out somewhere along the way to the cabin. Have you got a wiring diagram handy? If not, check out Sgt Fox's site, he's got all the manuals on-line.

Actually if the wire on top of the rad isn't grounded is when i makes that awful noise. that sensor uses the coolant to ground the sensor to the motor. if the coolant isn't touching the sensor BUZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZZ. I would recommend pulling the sensor out. test the sensor with continuity tester at the wire connector and the sensor. if theirs no continuity the sensor is defeated. if it's good. leave the sensor out and fill the rad untill the coolant pours out the hole. making sure there is no air bubbles in there. if it still doesn't work. you can ground that wire, but then you wouldn't have a warning when your coolant is low.

Thanks for your help guys. After my last autocross I discovered that the tabs on the rad to the rad support are broken, so the rad flexes. I'll fix that and see what happens. I still think I would like to disable the buzzer, it's even more crazy making then the over rev buzzer. Any one know how to do this?

As above: Permanently ground the wire to the chassis. No more buzzer.

the over rev buzzer is just fun, it makes people worry when you get your drive on with passengers.

Thanks again. By the way can you actually damage the motor by over reving or does it just get very dizzy?

As long as you have everything looked after - oil changes/ levels and what not, the rotary loves to see the redline. Just make sure that you've allowed the engine to warm up first.

most of our tacho's are optimistic anyways. My tach reads 7000 rpm, my haltech says 6400.
