7 siting - Ottawa - Black 2nd Gen

2nd time in 2 weeks. Around 7:00 a.m. Black 2nd Gen, badged as a GXL. Ontario plate starting with "001" with a Racing Beat licence plate surround. Really nice sounding dual stainless exhaust - not too loud.

Whoever this is gets off the 417 at Walkley, goes up Hawthorne, then on to Hunt Club at least as far as McCarthy.

Whatever is under the hood is putitng out lots of heat. I was beside him at a light and you could see the shimmers of heat off the hood.

Sound like anybody from here?

Yeah, that sounds like Jason.

He's got a RB exhaust system.

I was driving...

See the list with my signature. Daily driver is usually red 1999 Honda Civic (freebie as it was my Mother's before she passed away). My daily commute is 150 km, so the RX takes about $15 gas per day, so I don't bring it often, and when I do, I don't drop my wife out on Sheffield Rd (she takes one of the other cars) I go straight to work (Colonnade Rd S) by backroads behind the airport.

A week or so ago, you were really in a hurry. You know you can hear that exhaust from about 1000ft back in traffic! When you drive it easy, it sounds really nice and mellow. When you open it up though...well I wouldn't want to do that on a quiet street late at night let's put it that way!

Friday morning I was at the light beside you under the Airport Parkway. That's when I could see the heat rippling off your hood.

I eventually lost you BEHIND me (ahem!) (just kidding eh?) around the BMW dealership.

Now that I know who you are, I'll wave next time.

Rob

are you driving a red civic with gauges on the a-pillar???
and yes quite often I drive calmly, but sometimes i get fustrated with traffic that when i get open, i just go.

especialy on the way back from work... like yesterday(friday) some retard merge in taffic right in front of me i had no where to go so the car next to me moved over till he almost hit the curb and was in the middle of both lanes, we were three cars wide in two lanes... lets just say i didnt let off the throttle till my house.

i try not to take my rx-7 to work too often but the past couple weeks i was installing all my stuff. the rest of the time i drive a red 323 with a stupid bumper stick about some riverhigh school honor student, lol

full RB exhaust system is great like that. nice and calm when you are driving nice and calm, and then you can really hear it when you are NOT driving nice and calm, lol.

as for the heat coming off the hood, i believe he doesn't have the stock underhood insulation, IIRC. that would account for it. i just ripped mine out, so i wonder if that will happen to me also, lol.

oh, and the answer to your previous "Whatever is under the hood is putitng out lots of heat":
ROTARY ENGINE BABY!!

Yeah you E-thug you! Actually he looks like a pretty serious type (behind the wheel anyway) and when I read back my message it didn't look clear that I was just razzing him...

Yup. Damn thing is an automatic and had no tach. I can't stand to drive anyting without knowing what I'm doing to the engine. 2nd guage is a voltmeter. That's because I had a 91 Si before this one and it left me stranded on a back road at 25 below one morning when the alternator went with no idiot light warning or anything. By the way, a 91 Si is one of the most fun to drive cars I've ever had, and I've had well over 30 varying from Pinto rally cars to 64 Malibu SS with a 327 Corvette engine. And yes the RX is fun, except for the damn vague steering that drives me crazy. Also, I must be getting old, but the hard ride compared to my mother in law's Miata is a little tiresome.

I thought perhaps there was a BIG turbo that was close to the hood...funny, my -SE has no insulation and I've never seen heat off the hood. Although I have burned my had by stupidly putting infront of the exhaust...
