1983 GSL: Give Away
Hi everyone,
Before I get flamed for posting in the wrong place, I just want to mention that I wasn't allowed to post on the classified section probably because this is a new account. This was my old account: RX7Club.com - View Profile: Mr BiG G. I've since lost that email address and haven't been able to access it. I emailed the forum a month or so ago about it and got no response.
I'm giving away my 1983 GSL for free. The car was brought to Canada from Arizona or Cali some time around 2000-02. I purchased the car for $950 in 2004 I think and it had never been winter driven in Canada. The chassis is immaculate. The car needs a bit of work but I have purchased most of the parts which I will include. I've had the car for 10 years. It sat in my garage for the first 6 of those 10 and was then moved to my uncle's mechanic shop backyard and has been sitting in the outdoors for 4 years. Here's the story of the car: http://www.rx7club.com/1st-generatio...ressed-203279/ The car is currently not starting. I tried installing an MSD ignition box and might have messed up the wiring. It would make a great project car. I wish I had the time to dedicate to it but I know i'd just be delaying the inevitable.
Here's what's wrong with it:
I don't have any pictures at the moment.
Please call me at 647388 two three seven eight or email me - gufran at gmail. The car is in Mississauga, Ontario.
As an alternative, if anyone has the time and space to work on it and would like to partner up, I have a lot of automotive experience and can guide you along the way. You'd still own the car...I'd just appreciate if you'd let me see the end result and drive it when its done. This isn't necessary...just a way for me to see a good car make it.
Thanks.

Here's what's wrong with it:
- Driveshaft needs to be replaced. I have a replacement.
- Not starting because of MSD ignition box installed. Needs to be diagnosed or can easily be taken back to stock condition.
- Needs body work. It was repainted white at some point in time. The white paint is chipping off showing the red original paint underneath.
- Tie-rods need replacement. I have new MOOG replacements.
- Steering is a little loose. The steering box needs to be adjusted.
I don't have any pictures at the moment.

It's only 33 hours away: https://goo.gl/maps/BphyC. Leave tomorrow and you can be back home on Sunday night!
It'll also give me an excuse to finally visit Saskatoon!

I know somebody who can make great use of the car and parts. I have forwarded this link to him and I expect that he will get back to you extremely shortly. It is a great idea and I think you may be excited with the result.

This is the thing, A First Gen RX7 makes an excellent track day toy and all the technology is there and easily searched to make it quick and safe. I think that with some thinking and planning out the costs to make a track car, it may be easier, faster and cheaper to do it in a 1st Gen, especially if the car is complete.
It makes a lot of sense to do either, but keeping the car as a 1st Gen is the Easy Button. Stripping out the drivetrain and putting it in to another shell, involves a ton of work for not a large amount of speed gain as the 1st gen can be made extremely light. I keep looking at the old MazdaSpeed 1st gen IMSA cars with their widebodies and think, what a cool track car that would be.

He is very interested in keeping the car as an RX7 as long as the shell is good. That is why he needs to see the car first. If it can be returned to the track with just some repair and maintenance, then I think that is what he will do and keep looking for a motor for his other car.
That is why its really going to matter if the shell is good or not. Nobody wants to get into major rust repair on a early 80's RX7 that's going to be used as a track car.

Honestly, if the car's in the condition stated in your post it wouldn't take much to get it going again. The cosmetics will take longer, but a driveshaft, some ignition work and some steering bits isn't an insurmountable amount of work. Though the car has been sitting around for a decade, and considering the work I had to do on Naomi to get her on the road the first time, it might be a slightly larger project than expected.
Still, totally interested. Get some pics up!

I should have posted here last night. The consensus in my house seems to be that the car should stay in one piece and become a driver or track day toy rather than become a donor, providing the tub is solid.
If that is the case, we could have it on track (or at least an autocross) before the snow flies. Let me know if Marco does not take it.
