Damm! I can't wait for the next meet!!!!

 

I can't wait to get my car running so i can drive the next meet. Hopefully it will be running by then, this time i come armed with new pilot bearing

Thanks for posting that... It's nice to have the pic of my car from the meet before the crash, as well as all the after pics.



I've now had a week to reflect on what happened...

1.) I need to practice my cornering more than I'd like to admit.
2.) Although the car is a write off, it's actually not NEARLY as bad as it looked at the time of the accident.
3.) The FB is one WELL BUILT car
4.) Although the car held up well, Sarita and I were VERY LUCKY... it could have VERY easily have been worse.

I think I've come away from this with a lot of knowledge and insight. I would once again like to thank all of you so VERY much for all the help. Words alone ae not enough to convey the depth of our gratitude.

We will be back out to meets (though rex-less for a while), and I for one, will be back at Ottawa (Sarita is undecided).


I also have had time to go over the car thoughly.

The CP Racing Tri-Bar is BAD-***. The front frame rails are bent along with the bottom of the strut towers, but the top of the towers DID NOT MOVE at all and the Tri-Bar kept everything tied together nicely.

I also test-fired the engine, after checking the wiring and fliuds thouroghly, and it fired up right away and ran fine.

The only real damage in the engine bay was that one of my battery cable terminals was crushed, and the rad has a leak.

 

No, lesson is to slow down, especially when your car spins out twice on you before to warn you that you're going too fast (which also endangers those driving behind you) and when you have a passenger (unless you're trying to permanently rid yourself of your passenger )

We're all glad you're okay, and we're all glad we were able to help somehow! You would have done the same had it been someone else!

who said it was a disaster? there was only 1 ticket, and 1 accident. that's not bad....
we had a great turnout at the show and "not so shine" (despite the rain). we had an amazing bbq (biggest and best so far) and the cruise was fun too (even though I didn't drive it). we had one small misshap because of driver inexperience, but he'll get better and learn the limits of his car / road conditions and be better next time.

all in all I'd say it wasn't a disaster. did Ian get that cop lady's number???

You missed the disaster some people imposed upon themselves by their own poor planning.

two better helpful words:

driving experience!

if you can't drive a stock toyota echo fast and properly, don't even try to drive a sports car. learn to drive a stock, unmodified car well first.

derek has stock suspension in his FC!! difference is, most of the guys up front when we cruise have done some form of solo 1 or 2 racing and understand how to motivate our cars around a course. we understand how to correct the car when the back end wants to come around. we know how to set up for the next corner, and when to apply gas / brake. if you want to try and prevent another roll over in the future, I suggest you do some solo 2 (parkinglot racing) this summer.

 

Nah, best two words are "slow down". Solo 2 is still in a contained environment with average speeds much lower than what was going on during the cruise, so it's a different scenario. Sure, you learn better control of your car, but the stakes on the cruise are very high with people behind you that can be affected by a loss of control.

I know that I will never do 140 in corners on that highway again in my Vdub! I can drive my car very well, however, I know that those speeds are just asking for trouble on those roads...

Not sure how that is even possible, given the noise, rough ride, and whiplash inducing acceleration....

Yeah the stakes are high, but for people behind it shouldn't be very bad. Really no one should be following that closely that they can't avoid a spin out or anything. I was right behind them when it happened and had no problems stopping. At the rates that we are going everyone should be leaving a buffer behind each other.

 

yeah i htink i was 2 cars back when the crash happened, you could see the crash was going to happen(dirt cloud). I remember it wasright after a hill/straightaway, sother was some speed buil up.

The only time i ws on somebodys *** was when i was gettin ready to pass.

 

Of course nobody is *supposed* to follow closely But, realistically, in a group drive it is bound to happen, especially when you don't want to lose sight of the group since you're not too sure where you're going (yes, I know there were pace notes, but they weren't always totally clear to someone that hasn't driven that route before). Even for those that had driven that route before... Well, let's just say that Scott is somewhat directionally challeneged
