Update 3/13/22
Woah it’s been a bit! I’m still working on the FC, although very sparingly. I must admit, I probably over extended myself with three projects on my plate. However, the FD is coming to a close very soon and the EK Hatch is ramping up quick (I don’t expect it to take long). With both of those taking the current spotlight I’ve had very little motivation for the FC, but I finally have done enough to warrant an update. I can’t remember if I said it in a previous update, but I ordered a ton of stuff from JDLMFG. He does great work with billet aluminum and is my go-to source for things. I pretty much bought his entire catalog for the 20b lol and it all came in. I also bought some Chase Bays soft lines second hand. Let me just say that Chase Bays customer service is excellent. One of the lines I had was from an older kit and too short. I reached out and told them what was going on and no more than a couple of emails later they sent me the new updated line even though I originally didn’t purchase from them. I got those lines all mocked up and ran. I also put a few things on the transmission and got the diff ready to be sprayed. The diff was originally filthy with a capital F. The last thing I did was plug the antenna plate and plop the OE rubber over the top. I’m not sure it’s going to accomplish anything, but I like to keep up with OE appearances lol.
My short term-ish plans are to keep grinding away on my wiring project (I’m working on the dash harness now) and get the rear suspension back up into the car. Until next time!
Here’s the stuff that came in from JDL
Here is the Chase Bay lines
Here is the transmission and diff (I need a new drain plug now lol)
I think I want to use the chase bays stuff for the REPU since the whole brake system is shot, diaphragm and all. Still jealous of how clean this car is.
Update 5/2/22
It’s been a bit! I wanted to post another update, because I think it will be a long bit until I get enough to post another one. I’ve still been slowly working on the interior wiring. I almost have the dash harness finished up and can then work on the big one (chassis electrical - interior to front of car). I knocked out the inner bearings on rear knuckle, but have not gotten around to getting the hubs reinstalled. I finally got the rear differential finished and slapped back together. In addition, I’ve gotten the rear end suspension back on the car. This was a necessity as I wanted to try and get the Civic in the garage so I can work on it more easily. I’m happy to announce, with the help of wheel dollies and jack stand + rolling dollies, it did fit, and I still have a path to most of my tools lol. I expect the Civic project to wrap up fairly quickly. I’m excited to get back full steam on the FC.
This car was taken apart, and sold as a roller at the end of last year. I believe the new owner has it listed for sale on FB Marketplace, at least I saw it listed a month or 2 ago.
I saw some chatter on one of my build threads so thought I'd post a final update. In short, both of my RX-7s are gone.
I've been in the RX-7 Community a long time. I've made a ton of friends throughout the years and was even fortunate enough to create my own website and share a ton of free RX-7 media to the community.
Both of my builds turned out awesome - the only regret is that I pulled the FC a part one last time and it never made it back together.
I sold the FC to someone local fully gutted - Honestly, will be surprised if that car is ever in as good of shape and complete as it was when I had it fully complete.
I traded the FD in to a dealer up in Chicago (Diamond Motorworks). I reverted it back to stock beforehand. They've since sold it and I have no idea where it ended up.
In both cases I made good money on both the cars and got what I would have asked had they been complete the way I originally had them.
When my wife bought her 2021 Phoenix Yellow CTR I began gravitating towards the Honda world of things. My current collection is a 1997 Spa Yellow Pearl Acura NSX, and a 2000 Phoenix Yellow Honda Civic both in yellow.
