A turbo build that has been a long time coming. any help would be appreciated!

So as the story goes I bought my first car an 86 NA fc and did all the bolt on stuff then the motor went and decided to go turbo, so I bought a jdm swap and drove that for a little bit and then the apex seal went. So I took it to my motor builder for a streetport ect then a baby came and everything went on hold. So now that things are settled down my wife has givin me the go ahead to finish what I have always wanted to do!

I will say now that this would not have been possible without the help of my inheritance that my father left behind, he and my mom divorced when I was 6 and I hadn't spoken to him in about the last 12 years, but I got to see him one last time the day before he died which was the best present I could have asked for for my birthday. If it wasn't for him I probably wouldn't have any interest in cars or motorcycles. And now that he is gone I wanna build my dream rx7 in his memory :-) so I have taken what I had leftover after taking care off all the important things and I am left with @5k which wont go far considering I still owed my motor builder @2k. So now with @3k left I have a fc that I will be painting myself and I have all running gear and drivetrain taken care of, I need some help deciding what will be best. I wanna do it right the first time and make a nice running fc. When I did the swap originally I used what I had and it cost me a motor. I had issues with it leaning out and detonating on 8psi! I assume it was because of the wiring and old uncleaned fuel injectors but anyway here is my list!

My goal is @350-400whp at 20psi Max
I have decided to go with a haltech either sprint re or 1000... undecided??? Or if someone has a used e6x ect or any similar, I am open to suggestions.
The reason for going with the haltech is I am in need of a new harness anyway and a new harness and rtek would cost the same if not more to do.
I am also unsure of what size injectors would be best to go with my guess is 750cc/1000cc or 1600?
I will probably just go with a walbro 255 unless someone could give me a better option!
I also need to know if I would NEED a FPR?
I will be using either a Godspeed fmic or a corksport w/tial bov
the turbo is a Garrett to4 with a 60-1 wheel and a stage 3 turbine
The motor was an s5 but I am undecided to have him use s4 rotors and s4 cover for the omp or the higher compression s5 rotors it came with, I plan on running 8-10psi daily but wanna hit the button for 20psi when I wanna have fun. Recommendations?

If anyone has stuff for sale and is willing to help out my cause I would appreciate it. I have been looking for wrecked or blown up turbo cars for a while to part then out and get the good parts I need to save money but I am coming up short at the moment.

I do wanna thank everybody in advance for there help! I will post pictures of stuff as soon as the build get underway! The last few months have been hard, but I am excited to do this for my pops
:-)

The reason I am posting this thread is to get help on deciding the most efficient and cost effective route to go. Some people buy so much stuff they either don't need or is necessary for what there goals are. I don't wanna blow all my money on stuff that I don't need.

Ok I will give it a read. I have been out of the rx7 game for about 3 years and I just wanted to pick peoples brains about the new stuff that's come out the past few years that may be benificial to me.

LOL. Sounds like it. Looks like haltech has some nice new stuff too. Well not new I guess but definitely an improvement over the old e6 ECUs.

it's RTEK not Rteck
digital tuning, inc.
suggestion?.ok.here we go.
Haltech PS1000 with 750/1600. (or 1000/2000 ID injectors)
FFE trigger instead of a CAS.
S5 engine,s5 internals.NO omp and use premix since you have the Haltech now running as an ECU.
Walbro 255,or bigger.(FD pump,maybe)
aftermarket FPR,since the stock one will give you trouble.
Turbo?.That is another "up to you" as you can keep the stock s5 setup and go BNT Stage 3 or 4...or go to a T4 based turbo which requires you to get a manifold, wastegate, downpipe, etc.
....That is a bit of what I can touch on,I hope that helps you.You will have many options, but really it is up to you.
I would read some threads and see what works for other guys and maybe go with something similar.
Cheers,STYX.

Sweet thanks! I just talked to Nelson in Cali who tunes all kinds of rotaries, he basically said the same thing. P1000 Ecu, 550pri 1600sec, no fpr is needed unless mine was in bad shape and possibly ls coils. That will get me 350-360whp at @16psi on 91!
I currently have an fd fuel pump which I may stick with and see if it is sufficient. And what is an ffe trigger?

Need a better fuel pump for those injector combinations. 255lph or FD pump will not be okay if you ever decide to use the max potential of those injectors. It's good enough to make power at your goals, but it might wear out prematurely.

With my build, 850/1600 works out to 294lph at full duty cycle.

Factory SupraTT, Bosch 044, or an Aeromotive 340lph. They're supposed to be more reliable, and if you'd ever want to make more power, you be ready.

I think over the months that have passed and looking at all my options and talking to my engine builder, I decided to do a full streetport and I told my builder to take it as far as he felt possible! I did his stationary gear bearing upgrade which basically adds a few holes in the bearing for better oiling, also the oil relief valve upgrade. I am using s5 "higher compression" turbo rotors compared to s4, s4 front cover so I can use a mechanical omp if I want and all factory type mazda seals ect. I decided to stick with the 2mm seals instead of going with the 3mm as my builder Don from first stop performance said its not necessary nor cost efficient for my goals and needs with my build.

As far as the rest goes I scored a new haltech p1000 w terminated harness for the fc for $1300!
ls2/7 coils
550cc/1600cc injectors
rising rpm fuels rails w/aeromotive fpr
rising rpm oil block and fd upper intake manifold adapter
ACT 6 puck sprung race clutch and prolite flywheel
greddy intercooler piping kit "still need an intercooler"
Tial Q bov
I thinks that all I have so far!

so the rising rpm secondary fuel rail doesnt fit with the fd manifold and adapter due to this tab on the factory upper fd manifold, however ther is no need for this tab! so just hack it off, it makes the manifold look cleaner anyway.

i would also like to point out if you use a FPR on the end of the rail you will have to mount the FPR gauge as seen in photo! i originally had it mounted straight off the regulator facing the front of the car but it would not fit due to the water neck, so i had to have it facing the passenger side.

here is a shot of the FPR gauge and the turbo mounted on the manifold! i also have a feeling this manifold will not work as it is for an FD, i will more than likely have to modify the wastegate pipe so it doesn't hit the frame rail. will find out once i drop the motor in for mock up.

Quick Reply: A turbo build that has been a long time coming. any help would be appreciated!
