The Slow S4 Widebody Winter Build Thread

Just thought I’d decide to make a build thread for my 1988 S4 NA FC, I’m located in Ontario Canada so progress will be slow for the next few months as it’s winter and I don’t have a spot to work on the car, here’s the car when I got it

Bought the FC a few months ago took like 4-5 months to find a good FC that was worth buying but ended up finding one that was in really good condition, was no rust on the body and the engine was in good condition starts good every time even in the cold now

Started off getting the car ready for paint and doing coilovers since there was a blown rear shock and the car didn’t ride smooth with the blown shock

Turns out a owner before me just ran soft lines for the fuel lines around the rear subframe and after lowering it a rubbed through one of the lines and had fuel leaking everywhere so I pulled the rear end redid the fuel lines, painted the rear end and everything so it looked better underneath

And now the cars pretty much parked for winter waiting on the rear of the body kit from JPFiberglass which was a bad idea to order it’s been over 4 months and I’ve only gotten the over fenders which were cracked, chipped and have poor fitment but I work at a body shop so I’ll be able to save and use the kit just need the bumpers and side skirts then I’ll mount the kit and be able to get decent pictures of the car

After winter once I get the body kit all mounted and get the car painted at work I’ll just need wheels and some stuff for the rear end as my wheels camber out to about -10 or more on corners due to shot bushings in the rear end then I’ll start working on the engine

heres how I plan on having the car look, after seeing RotaryShenanigans FC on Instagram white is the color I’m going with obviously I’ll have different wheels and stuff as I don’t want the cars identical

Thanks for reading looking forward to continuing the thread but progress will be slow till winters over next update should be with the body kit on and maybe the rest of the body prepped for paint

Yeah, I'm out near Alliston. Quite a ways.

I forget how big Ontario is sometimes. I could drive north for like 20 hours and still be in Ontario.

Looking forward to your build. Do you happen to know what rear overfenders those are?

there JPFiberglass overfenders don’t really recommend them but I’ll make them work I’m good at body work, work at a body shop and restore cars

A little more progress done

Ended up being scammed on the body kit from JPFiberGlass, he ended up blocking me on Instagram for messaging him wondering when my kit was going to be done so I got one off of marketplace, here’s how the car looks now still need to mount the kit better

I need to make brackets for the rear bumper to get the bottom kicked out a little more it kind of goes under the car and then just need to make the front bumper fit a little better too

Also ordered some wheels so just waiting for them to come in, 17x10.5 and 17x11

Going to be starting the body work and getting the kit fully mounted once the wheels come in, also ordering some of the PBM parts like camber links and bushings but the car should be primed in a few weeks and then painted in a month or two.

So far I think I’m painting the car Mazda Soul Red Crystal but we’ll see if that changes, here’s how the color looks on an FD

A little more progress done on the car, wheels are mounted, body kit is on just have to mold the rear over fenders into the body and make the bracket for the front bumper

I did a tune up and let the car sit for the winter and now it won’t really run right, did a smoke test one small vaccum leak, tested the tps and it’s way out 0.12 on idle should be around 1.0 on idle from what I’ve read so the car won’t idle till it’s warmed up and then just bogs and coughs when you rev it and runs pretty rich was popping pretty loud sometimes so not sure if I’m able to adjust the tps or if it’s totally bad, but here’s some pictures of the progress

I thought the spacers from parts by max came with extended studs for front and back so I need to get more spacers for the rear and then install all the suspension parts like the camber links, adjustable toe rods, bushings and all that kind of stuff other then that it’s coming along pretty good I’ll post more pictures and go into detail when I mold the fenders into the body

Have a little more progress on the car, I got the engine bay painted and painted pretty much everything that goes back into the engine bay just have the do the steering shaft in white, rad in black and then the intake manifold and carb when I buy them

But here’s how the engine bay is looking it has a few runs but I’ll get them out other then the dust it looks good but best I could do with 2 eyes and my glasses I guess so 4 eyes haha I welded in hood size patch on the passenger strut tower can’t even tell other then that was just some surface rust

Then I painted all the Pulleys, Water pump, Brake booster, windshield wiper motor and stuff but I think I want to do the booster black not sure how the white will look now on the fire wall

Just have to put everything back together in the engine bay and then fix the rear overfenders and save up for everything to convert it to carb
