Sexy drift/street roller

I've been drifting for around 12 years; 240sx's and most recently a Volvo wagon.

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...a53ee29e09.jpg

I love 80's and early 90's styling. This is my FC build.

I paid $400 and rescued this from a dude's yard; 91 n/a.

One trip to the VatoZone, for a fuel pump, and she was a runner.

I put on some Isis coilovers and an ebay short shift kit. I ordered a new knob from ebay and had a custom shift boot made by Becka Bahr, in Phoenix.
The coilovers are decent. I haven't really put them through the paces yet. I suppose we'll see.
The short shift kit is notchy as hell and feels amazing.
I also had to switch up wheels with some of my drift spares, as the existing tires were crazy dry-rotted.

I don't know who's car this is, but I'm liking it A LOT!!

It is inspiration, I suppose.

I put on my Volvo wheels. They are AEZ something. 17x8.5 +13 square.

SupaDoopa 10-17-15 08:26 AM

What are your plans as far as motor, suspension, etc?

minusdarkslide 10-17-15 10:57 AM

I have never modified a rotary before, so I will begin by putting a turbo on this NA S5 motor. When that blows up, I will probably move toward a turbo2 swap. I would really like an engine putting around 300 to 350 to the ground.

As far as suspension, I'm going to make it stiff and tight. Rear steer delete and all that.

I'm keeping the full interior and upgrading the sound system. The entire vehicle is going to be stunning and relatively comfy, so I can drive this car wherever I want and enjoy myself. It will retain air conditioning.

SupaDoopa 10-17-15 02:57 PM

So it seems you AREN'T doing a track slider. Seems like you're doing a weekend car meet show car. Drift cars generally don't retain things like radios - specifically upgraded, AC, interior, etc. The money you'd spend boosting the NA motor, you may as well swap now.

Think smarter, not harder. Cost effective isn't effective if you're spending your money twice.

A drift car doesn't have to be a rattling, worn out, piece of crap. Some of my favorite cars are clean, full interior builds. I typically don't go to car shows and I only attend meets if driving is involved.

Also, why swap, when I have a perfectly good engine to sacrifice?

Also, also, the words "cost effective" never crossed my mind. I'm certainly not throwing money in the garbage, but I don't plan to be pinching pennies.

minusdarkslide 10-18-15 11:17 PM

Speaking of not pinching pennies, I recently acquired a set of 18" Blitz 03's. Yesterday, I dropped them off to get rebuilt and polished.

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...17d5fd3018.jpg

SupaDoopa 10-19-15 02:15 PM

With ISIS coils and numerous encounters on eBay, you didn't have to say much. Regardless, good luck with the build and Blitz's were a nice choice. In some decent setups, those are fantastic looking wheels.

minusdarkslide 01-09-16 11:20 AM

I bought Borg s360 83/75 yesterday. It has been shipped.

I also have an artist (CJ Franks) working on a design to cover the bare, white sides of the car.

https://cimg7.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...79d524778d.jpg

Still needs color and line detail, but the excite is growing!

minusdarkslide 01-09-16 11:25 AM

I also got lips for my Blitz.

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...0d5eef0d8e.jpg

I'm having some sparkly gold mixed up, for the faces. This was a trial run with the gold, prior to stripping. (not sparkly)

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...ac59af6232.jpg

minusdarkslide 01-09-16 11:29 AM

Next will be purchase of turbo stuff, new white paint (probably sparkly) and BN sports or BN-ish sports.

13.bREW 01-11-16 11:09 AM

Cool Build I like where this is going. Its about time someone just does stuff and worries about what happens after is happens lol.

minusdarkslide 01-12-16 03:04 PM

13bREW, I appreciate the kind words. I'm just hoping that I can do this car justice.

minusdarkslide 01-12-16 03:06 PM

Still a bit more to go; maybe some comets, spaceships, sunburst, etc...

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...b67bc91dce.jpg

minusdarkslide 01-18-16 11:20 PM

Complete! This graphic is 4ft x 2ft. After aero, bodywork and paint, this graphic is gonna look amazing! Then I'll add some silver and gold highlight vinyls.

My BW s360 came today! I really didn't expect it to be so large.

Finished building my wheels last night. They went from 18x8 +48 to 18x9.5 +10 .

minusdarkslide 02-24-16 04:39 PM

I'm currently injector shopping. Looking at Blackops 1000/1600 setup, I'm wondering what other options are out there and if any options are necessarily more favorable.

A V-mount intercooler/radiator setup has also recently sparked my interest. I'd like to retain my A/C, so a custom condenser and lines may be in my future.

Does anyone have suggestions on preferable manifold gaskets/material?

My Glease manifold came in today!

SEXY.

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...9550da9215.jpg

My next logical purchase will be a pair of wastegates. Looking at Tial 38 MV-S.

minusdarkslide 02-24-16 04:44 PM

Also, also...

Proper rolling pins.

THATgoS4Bridgy 03-01-16 05:14 AM

I'm gonna try to make a copper gasket for my 6 port turbo, I'd like to find something cheaper than $90 for the actual gasket, hopefully I can still get the sheets of copper down the street

minusdarkslide 03-01-16 02:22 PM

@Thatgos4bridgy- do you just cut the shape out and roll the edges? Have you made your own in the past?

THATgoS4Bridgy 03-01-16 06:36 PM

My buddy did it on his turbo integra years ago, I'm gonna try it and see what happens. I figured I'd give ya an idea, lemme know if anything else comes to mind

minusdarkslide 03-05-16 01:53 AM

Some maintenance items (LEDs, speedo cable, OMP plate...) and DTSS eliminators.

https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...007ce57341.jpg

minusdarkslide 03-05-16 03:58 AM

Does anyone have experience with the fit/finish of Origin Aero kits? I'm really liking the Origin Stream for my FC.

minusdarkslide 03-14-16 07:32 PM

Finally put tires on my wheels and the wheels on my FC. I need aero real bad!

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...8ecc34940e.jpg

minusdarkslide 03-29-16 02:31 PM

Stuff for the turbo addition is still piling up. I read that the Klotz Benol is good for an E85 premix.
-walbro 450
-fuel line/gauge/filter (10micron)
-manifold/turbo gaskets
-chrome and gold vinyl
-NRG steering hub adapter
-super ridiculous custom steering wheel on order

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...0276e322a0.jpg

minusdarkslide 03-29-16 02:45 PM

I also acquired some Schroth 6-pointers. So, now I'm in search of seats, brackets, harness bar...

It's crazy how things add up.

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...00d1830a4e.jpg

minusdarkslide 03-29-16 02:53 PM

I'm working on stripping and polishing my drift spares today. This is NOT fun.

https://cimg5.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...e420360405.jpg

https://cimg8.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...be1f5c3f8b.jpg

I've found that 3 to 4 applications of the stripper is needed to get the wheel completely naked.

Use eye protection and wear long sleeves, as the brushing away of old material flings the stripper onto exposed skin.

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...c0ce18ebaf.jpg

I'll post a photo of a polished wheel later on today.

unek87 03-29-16 03:11 PM

I like that wheel . Old style blocky looking . Are you polishing the face also or just the lip

I'm hoping to polish as much as I can. I'm about 3/4 of the way done. The lips and faces are getting pretty shiny.

minusdarkslide 03-31-16 08:58 PM

So far...

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...57404af508.jpg

It took about 20min per wheel to get them to this point. I'd like to hit them a few more times, in hopes of really bringing a good shine to the surface.

unek87 03-31-16 10:02 PM

That look pretty damn good almost a machine finish right now

minusdarkslide 04-08-16 08:06 AM

Shites getting eliminated! And differential is getting welded!

Sealed with Ultra Gray, filled with random gear oil and ready to go back in.

minusdarkslide 07-17-16 10:34 AM

Got this made for me, by Driftwood Wheels. #RotarytheWorld is the hashtag for my build on Instagram.

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...8175181e71.jpg

minusdarkslide 07-17-16 10:39 AM

Also, my oil seals went out, so I've been mulling over engine options for a while. It is decided that I'm going to take my n/a S5 motor to GarageLife in LA. I'm hoping that they can build and tune it for a responsive 300 wheel torque.

minusdarkslide 07-18-16 08:51 AM

Started removing engine stuff. That fan is huge!

https://cimg9.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...96b414a284.jpg

I thought that I had it all figured out. Then, I changed my mind.

This is my daughter, unwrapping my new 13B rew! I bought it from an importer on eBay.

https://cimg6.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...2aff2c3ea4.jpg

Let's throw a single turbo on it and see what happens!

minusdarkslide 08-12-16 09:03 PM

It's ridiculous how convoluted the stock twin setup on the FD is.

The Duraflex Bsport came in from Extreme Dimensions!

https://cimg3.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...1b0eb7075f.jpg

minusdarkslide 09-04-16 05:16 PM

Due to the poor availability of decent side-feed injectors, I'm switching to top-feed. I ordered these from Banzai. They were inexpensive and shipped quickly.

https://cimg4.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...9115d7f529.jpg

As I love chewy Spree, I also ordered a 4lb bag on Amazon. Also, satisfied.

avernier 09-07-16 03:49 PM

This car sucks. Needs more vinyl. I'll send you some.

minusdarkslide 12-06-16 02:04 PM

Austin, you finish your raggedy piece. I'll worry about mine. Then we can meet in Texas and destroy them together.

I'm such a procrastinator. I've had no motivation.

I ordered an fd to fc crossmember from Angel Motorsports. I believe that they actually have it made by Street Faction. Apparently, it takes 3 months to make, powder coat and ship a measly crossmember. I'm a little pissed.

79fbmjg 12-08-16 10:38 PM

Car looks great keep the updates coming.

nbjeff 12-09-16 05:56 PM

Awesome Build dude, looks like you do everything properly and can't wait to see the progress.
