Should just tuck the engine while you're at it! :)

Any way some of you may remember I had an old blitz core I was using to get things in place on the old FD project. And it was a wreck of thing. Had kissed the ground in a car that was to low and it was badly mounted. Any way :

Given the bottom bit was just a plate and cooling fins I trimmed them off and replaced the plate at the base with new 3mm piece to protect the core. Then knocked up some new tanks. Given the state of the core in general I'll use this until the 20B goes in the get a whole new core that's a bit more efficient. Anyway ended up like this..... Once it tidied up a bit i'll paint it black to go along with the other details of the engine bay.

A knackered core semi restored..... kind of. Well its usable for now in any case. Need to get the pliers on the fins and give the intercooler a lick of black as the ally I used where off cuts so quiet badly marked. Not to mention i'm not a huge fan of the bling polished look.

An started on the manifold

This is where the turbo will sit... ish. Will be at that angle but a bit lower and further forward but that's the only place I could balance it!

i dont see how a guy with your skillset thinks the rx8 trans is going to hold up to turbo PP power.. they break at the ~300, but good to see ANOTHER person doing the rx8 6 speed swap :S

the ONLY thing i don't like about my 6 speed setup is the shifter is too far forward to use the factory surround and trim, functionality wise, it's great even with a stock s4 n/a engine.. i find towing jetskis pretty effortless.

The internals of the box will not be stock RX8. When its closer to the time I'll change the internals for dog engagement gears etc. The shifter in mine is in the stock S4 position because I have shifted the motor back to suite. I like the feel of the 8 box. Ratios are pretty goof too.

Still the FC is getting a little neglected because of the scoob and ill health :( though there is no lack of desire to get the monster completed. I have started to draw up a new list of to do's. With the Impreza not far off being road worthy again I turned my attention back to the 7 for an evening last week to get to grips with where I left off

In haste, made a huge school boy error, with the header when I got the turbo position where I wanted it I quickly built up the pipe work in a funky fashion off the car and at work...... but I may not taken into account the sodding peripheral port intake and it fouled big time...... TWAT!

Not too much off an issue. With the turbo moved/motor mounted and inlet manifold roughly where I wanted it I ended up with the key engine bay components looking king of like this:

Attachment 644911

I'm just waiting on some more flanges for the two Tial gates, had to use the set I had on the scoob :banghead: ,so I can get those mounted and the I can do the down pipe and centre section to marry up to the rear. Pics to follow when they arrive.

I also have a bit more work to do on the trans tunnel. Once the last of the major fab bits are in then I can turn my attention back to the motor and wiring.

So made the adjustment to the header. Just a tweak but will do the trick and now clears the inlet manifold pipe. Just Swapped the inlet to the flange and changed the pipe a little. Not quite as funky looking but hay ho.

Also after a rather large crash in my MX5 RS a couple of weeks ago. I decided to have the Recaros out of her for the RX. They're not in bad nik. Need a good clean now they are out and fitting to the 7's rails. Way lighter that the FC seats. The RS is going to a good home though to be reshelled. Low mileage engine, close ratio box and LSD will be put into a mint shell my mate owns and it will kind of live on.

Attachment 644914

Boost pipe in with the BOV. Fitted it all up so get the lay of the land. Mocked up a down pipe but not happy with the angle as it dips down past the bulk head. So will order another section of 3" for that and just have one long radius around. Wastegates in the kind of position they will be in once I've bored the headers for the pipe work.

Almost looks like how the engine bay should look

Well..... No where near as much done as I would have hoped

Combination of having loads of personal stuff to do and then a very rainy Monday. Didn't get the seat in or trans tunnel finished. To be honest by the time I got the in its final resting place and bolted down on the mounts I actually had to chop more of the bulk head away. Also managed to get the pedals about inch and half further back. Surprising how much of a difference that made to the seating position.

But the manifold in now 100% finished. I will make up a tie rod for support once the rest of the toys are in the engine bay. Both gates mounted just he dump pipes to do. Those will be plumed back in further down the system.

Gearbox brace finished up so the chopping the prop then a balance will be in order. Having that in place allowed me to remake the down pipe with more flow than the previous one made of off cuts.

Manifold:

In with the gates:

Attachment 644498

Picy of the whole lot with the down pipe:

Attachment 644499

Took this one because a few have asked why the turbo is how it is. As you can see with the motor being far back you can't get the turbo next to the engine. Then add the gates/down pipe and inlet (not on the car here) but you can see its surprisingly tight on that side!

Attachment 644500

last but no least a pic of the inside as it is right now. Pedals further back and nice big hole for the gear box

awesome build, how long did you drive the N/a setup??

Thanks dude.

Got the front bumper through this morning along with the splitter. The splitter is the widest they do, because my arches are wider than stock at the front to suit the 10j wheels, so that may well need to have strip taken out the middle. The bumper will also need to be modded to suit the wings.

The pop up are being done away with in favour of fixed units like on the RE-A 2000 style kit. So bit more modding in that area will need to be addressed too.

Looks good! What kind of splitter and front bumper is it?

And I keep looking at those front fenders. The amount of awesomeness is just to high!

McCarthy 01-07-15 01:43 PM

Thanks dude. I was very happy with the way the fenders turned out. I just couldn't fine anything I wanted off the shelf. Though the wide R Magic ones are similar.

The front bumper is a GP Sport style one. The splitter is made by a company in the UK called Aerokit. They also do this style of bumper.

GeenIdee 01-08-15 02:25 PM

Okay, cool.

Are you going to make an FPR version of your fenders? I mean, weight is key on the track. I am hoping to get around 1000kg one day.

Had a bit of a fettle today. Not much. Got the bumper fitting a bit better with the wings. Got the splitter and skirt extensions on so I can play with the ride height properly now.

Also I have got the basic templates in for the fixed lights. I'll be using the stock housing but I didn't fancy the pop ups for track.

Seemed only right to make a mess first!
