Typical

The camber arm on this thing is so so weird, I mean it literally twists the whole rear subframe to change geometry angles to get camber? Is that right? Idk just a weird concept to me.

A look at my rear setup, stainless lines with yellowstuff brake pads, and calipers painted blueeee with 2 inch spacers haha, need to get nice wide wheels still.

Guy at the gas station kept calling my car a little ricer and how his 3/4 ton truck has 400hp and could smoke me... haha ummm just ignored him and took a gas station pic haha

**************************Alright so this is when things really started with this car... Trust me*************************************

So ignore the massive amount of RTV but that was a coolant thing and just overall a pain and a band aid until I had the opportunity to really fix it, well I soon got that opportunity. Watch this video! The second you see the car start you will know what happened.

****https://www.icloud.com/sharedalbum/#...F-5D53CBA473D8 ****

Driving down the highway in the middle of Bend and i'm with my friend right? So I have been babying this engine for the last few months as I've been driving it and this was literally the first time that I had gone above 50% throttle. Let me tell you, I have never been thrown in my seat so so much, oh my god it was insane.... This was followed by the whole highway being covered by smoke and rotary oil.. yay. So as you could probably guess my rear iron is done.... and what I later found out was that this was an s4 iron even though I was told that the engine was an s5... Oh well its not a big deal just meant that I would be putting way more money into this engine than I wanted to, so that was unfortunate but what ya gona do? go LS??? Hahahaha no.... So things happened and engine was pulled and then begins engine build #1 for me and probably #3 for this setup.

On the bright side I now got to see what this thing was really made of.

Oil pickup was completely blocked due to the build quality previously done.

After I got the most annoying 54mm flywheel nut off I could finally tear into this thing.

Engine Rebuild

I've been on vacation so I havent posted anything else recently. Here is what cost me about $1500 more just into my engine build.

Also I was told this engine was a half bridgeport when I bought it... That obviously was far fetched .

You can clearly see, my dowel passage way was cracked in two places, the most common place for detonation damage. Also that's a S4 rear iron which is fun because I found out my engine was built with S4 irons instead of S5, everything else is S5 but it just shows how you have to be very precise when buying something across states without looking at it in person first.

Other than some miscommunication everything looked great, just as good as i could have hoped for having first cracked open a rotary engine. The strange idea that these are extremely complicated power plants really surprises me when you look at just how little of parts there are! In reality only 3 moving pieces and a number of seals, so simple in my opinion.

Got it all disassembled and spread out nicely to know what goes where

Then it was time for cleaning and alot of wire brushing.

Porting and polishing

Even though I know S5 irons can still break it was an obvious choice for the power range im looking for. So I grabbed a Turblown Engineering 10mm 13B Engine Stud Kit, a oil pan stud kit and a new Atkins S5 rear iron. Along with new corner seal springs, new competition needle bearings, and a full reseal kit.

Started cleaning up the old ports on the 'half' bridge. Also cleaned up the exhaust ports and just generally cleaned everything up.

Took about 3 weeks to get all the parts in and everything cleaned up to the standards appropriate for a rotary build. Not that long in my opinion for my first rotary build ever.

First front iron

With that process done which only took us a few hours of tedious work we had time to clean up the engine bay, throw the oil pan on with some high strength high heat RTV, and Get everything painted nice and ......

Took the massive amount of 30 psi+ wastegate springs out and went to a reasonable 8 at that point.

Enjoy

Finally got to enjoy my car for once. After a few more miles driving calm and hours of idling revving tuning all that fun stuff that takes forever really gets you no where and generally just wastes time and gas. Took my car to a few car meets and just enjoyed it.

Got some ugly wheels for free basically and took a bit of elbow grease and actually got them shined up really nice. Im not one for chrome big and showy but everyone who sees this car actually compliments the wheels... weird I know but whatever free is fine with me for now haha.

Flames are cool.. also cut my piping and raised it because it was hitting my alternator and cutting through the pipe haha.

Oil Pressure

Spent weeks and weeks trying to diag this problem. So whenever I would rev or cold start or actually any time at all my oil pressure gauge wouldn't go above 60PSI or so, this was odd because I have all the oil regulating mods done to my car. Oil pressure regulator, excentric shaft plugs ect. So I dropped my oil pan and took out my regulator.

It looked like this.. took it into work and used our 10 Ton press to get it smashed down just in case this wasn't doing the trick. Now the one thing I knew this problem could be was the front washer or o-ring in the front cover. Really hoping it wasn't that. With all the mods I should have been above 100Psi very commonly.

So guess what.... put everything back together and I still had the same pressure... so stupid.

Bought a mechanical gauge for testing purposes and again guess what.... well no I had full pressure... So I guess the lesson is, check your gauges first, make sure everything is functioning up there properly and then tear your car apart hahaha.

Got a new gauge and sending unit under warranty and all was good.

My god this thing was bloody loud, Yeah its a drift car but I mean I like to hear myself think sometimes...

Wrapped It along with my whole exhaust because heat was getting to be a problem inside the cabin.

Went up to the medium size spring as well, Gave me around 13 PSI off wastegate pressure.

AAAAAAAAAnd whoops..

My Rx7 met my grandpa's corvette, we all make mistakes haha just have to find new doors now.

Prep

Took the door off and sanded her down.. Cut out the inside and tried to pound out as much as I could. Idk temp fix was hit fairly hard at least enough to make it cheaper for me to get a new door rather than fix this one for good.

Some cool underside shots of my car, we got new lifts at work that are in the floor so no matter how low I go now I can lift my car up haha

At this point I was getting ready for a drift event happening at Oregon Raceway Park. So preparations were made and I had to change a few things around but got it as ready as it could be.

FYI that is a very bad idea having your harnesses like that.

Hey man love the build! Looks like a blast to run around the track too!
Really want to make my front end look like that with the LED headlights and stuff. What bumper and headlights you have mounted on there?

It's also a bad idea to use harnesses and fixed back seats without a rollcage.

My day ended when my catch can overflowed and started spitting oil out all over everything in my intake system and engine bay.

Did manage to kill some tires though

Closer to realtime

Once I got back and settled from that awesome event I started taking this more seriously. Things were in the works for more angle, more power, quicker power, and wider track along with all the showy bits...

Located a doner car for parts mostly doors haha

So went up and snagged parts off of that, also cut things.

Some teaser pics of what everything is coming together as..

Ported my exhaust manifold to actually mesh with my turbo, hopefully will help my spool time greatly.

And then I got some go fast bits and mocked them up as well

Not quite where I am at now days but very close, at this point the tear down really begun.

Slow Progress

Haven't done much on the FC lately. Oregon has been hammered with feet of snow and the engine in the Legacy has been having major issues so my attention has been devoted to that. Anyway I did get a few things done.

Cut the front end off.

Took out the windshield

Removed alot of the gasket material

Pulled the fuel tank

you are confused at what a full bridgeport is. that was a half bridge. as far as i can see your primary ports did not have a bridge. other than that awesome build!

Finally got some good work done to this thing, just have to keep telling myself to keep working on it. Just a little bit every day will eventually get me somewhere when I actually want to keep doing this crap. I need encouragement haha

Finally got to taking the rear diff and subframe out

Look at the little gem that I found, have to get some re-man axles

Fuel lines dropped

Front subframe out as well, haven't taken this guy out before was pretty dang easy

Look how empty it is!

Well I made it more empty, look how much I was rubbing haha obviously this was needed

Have always always hated the spare tire area, so good bye to that! Half way at least.

Scraping all the body glue and crap up has been the biggest pain, idk if getting the shell acid dipped would have at least helped? But at this point that would be soooo nice.

Can pick this thing up with one arm now, Tryin to figure out how to make it even lighter haha buttt without screwing up strength

Got everything all ground down, Wire brush and a battery impact gun work great actually, all my air tools just don't have enough power to get through the crap I need them to.

Then I got it all tacked up, switched from my 220v welder to a 110 and wow its way easier for this stuff, before even on the lowest power I would just blow through whatever I touched haha.

Other side as well, Trying to do my best to do each side equally and its not the easiest thing but I know if you don't it can twist the whole car wherever it wants to go.

Few weeks ago there was no way I could lay a bead like this, sooo practice helps a ton, not saying its perfect at all but pretty good for me!

So hopefully i can get the rest of the engine bay tacked up and finished soon, have plans for the front tubs, plan on something different.

It's not a conversion, just the bulb its a 7x6 LED. Harness plugs right into factory

Got both subframes taken apart, along with the hubs and bearings. The rotors were seized to the hubs which is why there's chunks taken out. Also the races on the rear hubs are super seized as well so still working on that.

Got more stitch welding done in the engine bay, also cut my front tubs out more, planning on covering both front sections entirely.

ALSO! I've started a new vlog type video series, Destination Sideways is something I've been wanting to do for a while but never had the motivation to get the ball rolling. Yes I know I talk way too much in this video but its my first one so what do you expect, had to explain what was going on haha anyway link is here :

Progress and Videos

Destination Sideways Ep.3 and 4 are uploaded and posted, I've been spending alot of time on these videos.

Ep. 3: Lost my opening clip first of all, so it starts out with me breaking tools. Quite common of course but this is just the start for the Rx7, still have the whole interior to stitch together...

Ep. 4: Still tearing down parts on the Rx-7. Progress was made until we got to the races on the hubs... Never knew how hard it is to get those suckers off, we're learning okay? Anyway Ep.4 stars the air hammer, Safeway, and clear Pepsi..

Other than that been trying to raise some $ by selling a ton of my old parts im not using anymore.

https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generati...-sale-1110353/

And time has also been devoted to the legacy making a bash bar for it that fits under the bumper. Honestly just wanted a project to devote time to welding where if I screwed up it wouldn't be on my race car that I can't exactly fix. Cage is coming soon! Ordering dies and notchers to get everything rollin quickly.
