Naomi: Can't keep a good bitch down!
Each time I work on something I think about starting a build thread, but it seems like such a daunting task to document how i got to this point. Nonetheless it will only become more difficult, so I might as well start now....
I purchased this Naomi bone stock with 101k plain as plain can be... http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...3281_796_n.jpg http://a4.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...817_1106_n.jpg http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...8291_495_n.jpg http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...8311_194_n.jpg First Mod... (actually it was a Personal steering wheel, but no pics of that) http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...091_5208_n.jpg Second Mod... http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...081_5469_n.jpg |
Looks like a great start! I would like to see the steering wheel you mention.
Ready to see this thing completely changed, there are too many stock Rx7s. Also whats the GT-R emblem for? Is it some kind of model I don't know about. If not I do hope that was on there before you got the car. I haven't seen another on an rx7. |
Oops.. Let me fix that for you:

sharingan >> It looks awesomely-clean! ^_^ |
Haha I was waiting for that!! It's amazing the different views. I do agree there are some over modded Rx7s. I just don't like seeing a car thats the same as everyone elses.
I have to admit that FC looks good with only different wheels though and I like the savanna emblem. Good to see it's in good hands! |
Fix the center console/armrest thingy. The stock TII wheels actually look good on a black FC. Oh well, you took them off. A stock battery TOP cover. Don't see that very often.

Got it up to 135mph on the way home, but that took a 2 mile stretch w/o hills, Woke up the next morning to check it out and realized all 4 tires were dry rotted....NOT lol. |
Despite appearing 100% stock for some reason this car had a walbro 255 installed. While this sounds cool, it is not on an otherwise stock car, and tends to cause hot start problems, smoking on start up and excessive pump noise pretty much all the time. I removed the Walbro and installed an FD pump. Problem solved.
Unfortunately Naomi also came equipped with ABS, which even when working properly, leaves much to be desired. This particular unit however had some kind of malfunction and would groan and croak while stopped, and randomly loose pedal pressure...no bueno. Since I was removing the ABS, I decided to remove emissions as well and install an S5 turbo and manifold while I was at it since the S4 had started smoking. |
Got a chance to take her to the 1/8th mile which my brother (74' Chevy nova 350ci w/ a turbo 400) and friend (07' Honda Fit)
http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...772_4660_n.jpg http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-...773_4962_n.jpg Not particularly impressive, but I beat the V8 running heads up, so that made my night. Of course he swore (still does actually) that if he had a manual trans and a posi he would walk me.....still waiting to find out on that one. |
A short while later I scored this deal on Craigslist for $180 actually less once I sold the bonez pipe I didn't need. For those who might ask, its a Greddy Power Extreme catback (listed as "Greedy" on CL).
http://a1.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot...551_3510_n.jpg Before I got a chance to install that I found a deal on some tokico blues w/ ground control coilovers. So I installed and gutted my stock cat at the same time. A little later a friend of mine decided to do a mini photo shoot, the full details can be found here: https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-non-technical-pictures-198/naomis-first-photo-shoot-775547/ http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...shoot/013b.jpg Here is the personal steering wheel I got for $80 shipped (w/ hub). I also had installed a Prosport premium boost gauge at this point in the process http://i18.photobucket.com/albums/b1...shoot/033b.jpg |
Next stop was the first ever Rotorfest in Kissimmee FL, The plan was to drive from Tallahassee to West Palm Beach to pick up a mountain bike I ordered on ebay, then head back up to Kissimmee and finally back , (roughly 1000 miles).
It was a great event, lots of nice cars and even got a chance to hit the dyno. With ambient temps well above 90* she made 177whp. Not bad for just a cat back I suppose. There she is in the background... http://i305.photobucket.com/albums/n...k/DSC02080.jpg Full thread: https://www.rx7club.com/se-rx-7-forum-35/rotorfest-dyno-day-car-meet-picture-thread-776699/ |
This would be the can't keep a good bitch down part.....
Sadly, despite the fact that we made it through over 800 of the 1000 miles without incident we would not make it all the way home safely...

I did not realize this car is from almost 4 years ago!
So what is the state of it now? |
We're getting to that part....
http://a3.sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/hphot..._4553412_n.jpg My Power Extreme exhaust was also kinked on the driver side, which ended up melting the the bumper. The driver side mirror was destroyed and the pass side headlight went M.I.A. The rocker panel was crushed, as well as the front fender, door, and rear quarter panel. This is the first stage of repair: Pulled the front fender and pounded out the dent(s) (enough for my headlights to operate at least), replaced the door w/ one from a sport model from the local junk yard and ordered a new mirror from a forum member. http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._6723373_n.jpg http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._3802277_n.jpg http://sphotos.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-..._6081367_n.jpg |
I then discovered that the damage was a little more than skin deep... as my roomate realized the car was crabbing down the road fml.
The driver side tension rod was bent like a piece of maccaroni, the pinion seal was leaking and the boot on the driver side half shaft was torn. I wasn't sure if the subframe had also been tweaked, so i decided to replace it anyway. Additionally, I discovered that the right rear tokico strut was blown (not sure if that was a result of the accident or riding around at max low  This provided the perfect opportunity to upgrade, I got a killer deal on some Ksport control Pros and sold the GC setup for half the cost of the coilovers. I also decided to send the diff out to be freshened up. Had the seals replaced, discs inspected, and play adjusted. Unfortunately when i went back to the yard I made a disturbing discovery: https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-S...tin+10AE+1.jpg https://www.rx7club.com/2nd-generation-non-technical-pictures-198/sad-day-fc-owners-909765/ I suppose the silver lining is that I was able to acquire the axel I needed for cheap, and figured I might as well grab the other axel and diff while I was at it....as a matter of fact, why not the whole interior and hatch...and windows  |
I like those FD wheels you got on there!
|
Ready to see some more! Had no idea you have had the car so long.
|
that sucks man i can relate me and my friend took everything off a old fox body for his mustang awhile back there wasnt much left for others lol .. hope u get what u need
|
If it makes you feel better, Im still rocking your GC setup lol

I really strive to pass deals on to others and be a quality seller, so I like to see my former parts as a part of quality builds. Unlike the forum member (can't reminder his name) who bought my damaged exhaust, claiming he could cut and weld it. He them turned around and sold it as-is to another forum member (using misleading pictures) as a good working exhaust. NOT COOL. https://www.rx7club.com/bad-fugly-members-185/dregg100-sold-me-garbage-943097/ |
As it turned out there were even more problems.....
The power steering rack was fubar and the pump was now leaking (perhaps as a result of being pulled from the ditch at full lock?) https://lh6.googleusercontent.com/-y...6/IMG00061.jpg https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-n...6/IMG00066.jpg https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-o...6/IMG00080.jpg |
A/C compressor getting raped by the busted power steering pump...
https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-H...7/IMG00075.jpg The further you go the uglier it gets https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-t...7/IMG00077.jpg But there is hope.... RTV and hope for the best... https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-1...7/IMG00105.jpg New Lines https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-U...7/IMG00084.jpg And done...almost https://lh3.googleusercontent.com/-S...7/IMG00086.jpg |
Typically your first trip after replacing all your steering components would be to the alignment shop. Being that I had already spent my ramen budget on car parts, I wan't to keen on that idea. Since toe settings are responsible for most accelerated tire wire I found a solution to keep that in check.
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-b...0/IMG00108.jpg Toe Plates. I got the idea from my roomate who was an engineering student and intern for a race team. They use them all the time (a much nice version than what I created for $8 at harbor freight) to set toe during qualifying and such. The concept is simple, line the plates up parallel to the face of the wheel (I used the bungie cord to keep it snug) https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-G...d/IMG00116.jpg Then measure the distance between the front edges of the plates and the back edges. If the distance between the front edge(s) is greater than distance between the rears then you have toe out. If the opposite is true you have toe in. |
Glad to see you rebuilding the car and having kept it from such an experience! Looking forward to future updates!
|
Thanks, next update will be a revamp of the entire rear end
|
Finally got around to pulling the rear subframe and diff from the 10ae and borrowing my buddy's integra-truck to get it home
https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-P...1218091655.jpg Little elbow grease and a lot of wire wheel action... https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-A...k/PC160437.JPG MUCH better https://lh4.googleusercontent.com/-n...7/PC160440.JPG Stored away waiting for a couple goodies https://lh5.googleusercontent.com/-u...5/PC160467.JPG |
