CA My track/weekend build and learning how to paint thread!

So I decided to finally make one of these threads because my car is sorta close to being "finished". I

bought this car in September of 08 and although it looks sorta ok in the pics, the paint was terrible.

I did not want to drive it around while it looked like a piece of crap so I let it sit until about

September of 2009.

During the year it sat, I bought a whole bunch of parts for the car and I planned to paint it too.

Well, there was a break in between me transferring to a diff college so I decided to take auto body at

the local community college and learn to paint it myself. Sooo.. heres a bunch of pictures of my build.

I am building this car for the track and the occassional weekend drive.

here it is when I first bought it. Doesnt look that bad in the pic but it had this crappy respray that

was peeling all over the place.

I decided that I did not want a dual exhaust so I sold my racing beat. I picked up a FEED Sonic-R

single exit and 3 inch dp. I like it a lot more lol.

I also decided that my skyline wheels were too small and non baller. I picked up a set of 17 in work

vsxx OG faced.

I had tanabe gf210 springs and kyb's on there but you know what they say, go big or go home. So I got a set of HKS coilovers. 8k front 7k rear.

I also wanted wide fenders so I picked up a set of used fenders and then test fitted them.. and they were terrible!

But I still wanted vented fenders cause I like how they look so...I cut out the vent part and cut out a hole in my stock fenders and put the vent in there!

Heres where I started thinking hmm... needs more parts. Up until this time I thought I wanted to have a

street car, but since I have a daily already, I decided to make it more into a track car.. SOOO

I got a set of infini seats to hold me in!

and a Cusco/safety 21 cage.

They look good together <3

For power I went with a knightsports hybrid turbo, 720cc secondary injectors, and an rtek 1.7 for now.

I also did some block offs.

I also went to Shine and got their Feed/odula lip and their fiberglass sunroof because mine was rusty.

The front would be too plain for me with just the lip so I decided to get Signal auto canards and Origin

under canards. MOAR CF AND DOWNFORCEE. I also picked up a set of oem s5 sideskirts and I plan on

getting the Odula sides.

Heres a mock up because I need to paint the car first. The side canards need to be shaped on the inside

to fit the body of my car.

So finally my class started in February. So I start sanding all the crap respray off.

THen I decide hey... vsxx are too heavy for the track. So I get rid of them and pick up a set of r33

gtr wheels. 17x9 +30 and forged! I painted them gold hehe.

I wanted to have the panspeed front fenders but my vents would not allow... so I bought a set and cut a notch in them to make it work. Ill smooth it out before paint :P. I plan on riveting them on. Oh, I also got an aluminum hood.

Heres more goodies!

Garage bb gt wing

attain cooling panel

The last thing I really need is a carbon rear diffuser but I will wait till after paint for that.

ok.. enough spending money and back to painting!

how much those signal canards run for?
your gonna have soo much fiberglass parts mounted up front, id think to just go with a aftermarket fg bumper since its overal 1 piece.

Heres where the fun starts I guess. I used a stud welder to pull two dents on the car. THe top dent came out awesome. The bottom dent... I left the stud welder on too long and burned a hole through my car!

So after laughing for a bit, we learned how to weld and now this!

just need to grind down the excess metal and bam.. no more hole!

As I was sanding, I found a big patch of bondo in the rear so I grinded all of it down to find the previous owner didnt even pound out the dent, they just filled it. I pounded out the dent and put a thinner coat of body filler on.

Im using evercoat z-grip as my body filler if anyone is wondering.

Hopefully the body work will be done next week and I can post some primer shots haha.

I got them used in japan for 100 but I know they retail for something like 300+ because of the Signal name. 100 is a bit much for canards too but I wanted brand lol.

As for the front... I dunno, I sorta want my car to look crazy in front haha

with my camber, if you look from a top view, the bottom of the wheel comes out farther than the fender on the front but the top of the wheel tucks in nicely. I have some pics ill upload tom.

Oh yah by the way everyone... I forgot to say this is a 1987 s4 turbo.

That is freakin' crazy cool seeing this project in all its rough forms starting to come together and all of the stuff you've had to do to keep going.

Man, it's time for me to hit the garage when I get home. This thread is inspiring!
