My FC S4 Build Thread

Hey guys, I picked up this S4 from a guy in Texas (who actually bought it from the original owner!) last May. I got the car back to my place and have been slowly picking at it and refreshing some bits.

Ive never owned an RX7 before so a lot of this is going to be new to me. However, I do have experience with other imports (Toyotas and Hondas) and so far, as far as the mechanical bits go, its been fairly straight forward.

The car is an '87 GXL with 119k original miles. The previous owner claimed that the coolant seals were bad and that a water jacket may have been compromised so the price was fairly decent ($3500). And what I got was quite a survivor with a lot of the original parts still intact.

Here she is. Full S5 conversion (minus the mirrors) with a Shine Auto front lip. I plan on adding some sideskirts and removing the tint off the S5 taillights. The original color was Satin Gold Metallic and it was wrapped in white. The wrap job wasnt perfect but from 5ft, its really not bad. Ill leave it as is for now and maybe do something in the future.

Peep the mileage and original paperwork that came with it. Rad.

Some interior shots. The 80s maroon really dates the car but at the same time, its prettynice to see a whole intact interior with the carpets to match. Also this was the GXL trim so I got the nice leather door cards and plush-ier(?) carpet/upholstery. Also leather seats that have bolster adjustments. I cant find a cool shift **** that fit with the interior so for now - i have my buddys Raceseng shift **** that is currently in its place. Also ive been working on re-doing the wiring harness so my ECU is just chilling in my trunk, which btw, has all its interior plastics and carpet!

Also gotta love the BBKs on this!

Ive already taken apart the stock motor and got the irons refinished (no broken coolant seals yay) and after theyve been cleaned up, they look nearly brand new. I have only one image of the center iron but the rest look just like it.

Plus the rotors are in exceptional condition as well.

Pretty stoked to be apart of the community and learning a ton along the way. Im working on the electrical harness now and that is its' own little journey. Ill update this thread with some meaningful progress posts in the future!

that is a nice car, and that interior is MINT, keep it out of the sun.

the trivia; Mazda still uses the Port of Benicia, https://maps.app.goo.gl/GXRqAnL1zkiaD4jj6

+1

I actually really like the maroon interior, when it's still in good shape. Make sure to get one of those sun reflectors for the windshield, and maybe tint the windows.
