i think reason your car stands out is because it is S4 , S5s kind of fall behind every other s5 or s4 in s5 clothing on the net haha

_Mac_ 08-15-11 02:50 AM

I think you're right, so I am keeping my front s4 bumper just in case I get tired of the new look. I wanted a more aggressive look so I'll see how it turns out, if I don't like it, I can go back easily.

G35 guards...

I was going to mount them closer to the stock configuration (higher up on the bumper) so I could use the mounting hole on the bottom rear of the gaurd...

but I liked the lower look better so I made a bracket to attach the other wheel well hole to a pre existing hole...

Paint (duplicolor color match) came out great, but the clear (duplicolor wheel clear) went on like shit. What clear did u use? I think I will try krylon acrylic next time as it goes on even and thin

_Mac_ 08-16-11 02:18 AM

Thanks for posting that up! Glad to see someone else try it out, looks good.

As for the clear, if I use wheel paint clear I don't do it that heavy to where it comes out shitty. I just do light coats and then wetsand to get the shine. Duplicolor clear wheel paint is used on a few bumpers I have painted, its feels more solid than any other clearcoat I've tried. But with clear coat in general, I personally believe that it doesn't matter how you spray it on as long as it sticks because clear coat can be wetsanded and buffed.

sharingan 19 08-16-11 09:18 PM

I completely agree that the wheel clear coats great and looks good when it lays down right; problem is it doesn't want to do so very often (at least not out of a can)

I'm starting to think that it has to do w/the extra high humidity down here. If I spray the wheel clear up close it turns white as it lays down, sometimes the bubbles disappear as it dries, sometimes they don't. Even wet sanding w/ 500 grit won't remove them before going through to the paint. If I spray far away it turns into a fuzz as it lands and really looks like trash, even if I take a tack cloth to it between coats.

The krylon acrylic clear lays down much more even (albeit much thinner) and its actually possible to keep it from turning white or fuzzing up. I'll see how it looks once it dries, but it sprays 10x better...

_Mac_ 08-17-11 07:04 PM

When laying down clear with wheel paint I do notice that it does turn a hazy white. I keep a heat gun on me for when it does. The heat gun cures it faster and gets rid of the white spots like magic, just don't heat it too much cause then the paint bubbles. I'll try to get up some pics of my bumper that I cleared with wheel paint after wetsanding.

sharingan 19 08-18-11 07:39 AM

Ah ha!! Well aren't you full of tricks, guess we just weren't gonna mention that minor detail huh? lol.

Checked out the krylon price, it looks good, not as glossy as the wheel clear, but its barely noticeable. I am probably gonna need a heat gun to help mold some bumper vents so I might try your technique the next time I need to paint something.

Any updates on your bumper?

Didn't know people were actually going to use wheel clear coat haha. Krylon is nice and cheap, it does lay down real well but it needs quite a few coats if you want to wetsand it after.

I know its not that clear of a shot, but its all I have.

Finally got a shot with the rest of the team.

Looks awesome. I just don't think it's as epic. Plenty of red GP kitted fcs

FCs4226 08-19-11 02:20 AM

yup.

sharingan 19 08-19-11 08:27 AM

True.

Painting the trim black to match the s4 look might get some of the "epic" back.

Btw how did you end up on a fwd/awd "team" where your vehicle is twice the avg age? Lol

brian_skotch 08-19-11 04:38 PM

The shape of the fc stands out quite a bit with those guys. In a good way

Hypertek 08-19-11 07:19 PM

its the only car with a low waist line.. They dont make cars like that anymore imo

bikeboy23332 08-19-11 11:25 PM

I agree lol. The rx7 sticks out like a hot bitch in a world of women that wear mom jeans

MaczPayne 08-20-11 12:21 AM

Yup, the only other car besides the 7 I can think of is the NSX

Hypertek 08-22-11 02:58 AM

s13 240sx, fc3s, fd3s, nsx all have that low waist line.

Mac keep it s4 like this http://inlandempire.craigslist.org/cto/2554286222.html

I know you can do it

For some reason, I don't always get a notification saying someone posted in my thread so I check it once in a while and then theres like 10 posts haha.

As much I can agree with you, I have not seen 1 gp sports kitted fc around my area, let alone a red fc lol. So for now it'll do. The shine half bumper was just not aggressive enough for me, it was a little too subtle.

Haha yah I know what you mean, but were all mainly just friends in the same area. We also have a s14 and s2000.

Me and my buddies s14 at Motion Auto Show 2011 in Long Beach, CA. The vendor we rolled in with wanted me to pop my hood. I told them it was stock motor, but they said it was clean so I said okay, you guys are in charge lol.

Hmmm, not sure if I like the s4 lines enough to hack up a bumper like that. But seeing as plans always change for my fc andything is possible at this point.

MaczPayne 08-22-11 11:39 PM

Just a little bit more and it'll look like ilia's FC. :)

_Mac_ 08-23-11 01:21 AM

I'll take that as a compliment considering how much I love his fc haha

Hypertek 08-23-11 04:39 AM

haha ok, well Welcome to the GP kit club, your one of us now <3 hahah

Nice your out at the shows, push the FC out there

Loving the GP bumper man it looks grest! What did you do to your shine bumper?

GuiltySoul 08-27-11 02:57 AM

im just gonna throw it out there, you can love it or hate it. if you had the jdm window visors and maybe a roof spoiler, it would be on top of the world. but keep up the good work you should be in magazines.

finishline 08-27-11 02:30 PM

just passed by your house. looks good down the street. LOL
