Had some trouble with the Grannys engine mounts. Ended up having to cut it off. Real pain in the ass. All good now.https://cimg2.ibsrv.net/gimg/www.rx7...e6711b7152.jpg

LS6 valley cover with PCV installed. Had to shave some ribs from the LS1 intake to get it to sit flush. There is a collision with the casting as shown below.

Got the harness pulled through the firewall. I was dreading this, but it ended up being way easier than I thought.

waiting on some things before i install the intake manifold. Knock sensors and harness, MAP sensor, O2 sensors, and LS6 steam pipe.

Also waiting on Fuel filter an AN hose and Fittings. Ditched the stock FC hardlines and decided to go full AN line.

It is compared to the Vette or F Body. Its actually the same size as the one that comes with the grannys kit, 22 x 19 x 3.

Maybe its the giant trans cooler I attached to it.

Second start.

FührerTüner 12-11-17 07:53 AM

I've been pretty burnt out on taking pictures lately.

Latest progress:

Radiator/Fan assy and hoses installed. Had to tap a fitting for steam tubes. Sealed it with JB weld.

Drive shaft installed, U joints greased

Added Integra speedo, not perfectly centered but itll do.

Sway Bar relocated

Roughly aligned the front end

Sanded/primered fenders and installed.

Trans cooler and lines installed.

OPS had broken off prior to engine install. Since im not using it, i cleaned it with acetone and sealed it with JB weld.

Aftermarket FPS, OPS, and CTS installed.

N2O Solenoids wired and fully functional

Brake switch wired to relay and fully functional

Lots of other stuff too. Only a few things left to do to get this thing on the road. Need to figure out how im going to install my intake. Theres not a lot of room behind the radiator/fan shroud. Need to install the hood and modify the hood inner panel so it will shut. Need to shorten the trans dipstick. Need exhaust.

Drove it for the first time since the swap last Thursday. Due to open header, and the O2s being 2-3 inches from the atmosphere, the engine loads up in closed loop mode. But when I punch it, this thing rips.

Oh yeah, new water pump. Went to fill the cooling system, and water was pissing out of the weep hole. Swapped the water pump in under an hour.

FührerTüner 12-18-17 11:26 AM

Got the exhaust done last Saturday. I've been rippin around town all weekend. This thing goes! Im able to light up the tires all the way through 3rd gear, and theyre gummy bears (Proxes R888s).

The 4.10s keep the rps kinda high on the freeway, but im not complaining. Very happy at this point.

Didnt connect a ground on my front harness for the headlamps, and smoked my headlamp switch. So ill need to fix that and I also need to do an intake, which is in the mail now.

Snapped a pic of my exhaust before my phone died. Took them 4 hours. Tough to go over that grannys trans x member. LOF had mentioned that to me.

Thank you, will do.

As of right now the car is on jacks again. I noticed a drop in oil pressure. Fairly certain my oil pressure sender is on the fritz. Have a feeling it may be the heat? :dunno: Ill be relocating it to the back of the block behind the intake manifold. In place of it, for the time being, i will be installing a mechanical sender and gauge outside of the windshield for troubleshooting purposes. The last thing i want is to blow this thing already.

Other than that, the headlight swith seems to be ok. I narrowed the problem down to bad relays and a broken wire on the RH headlamp. Going to make a trip to pick n pull soon.

LargeOrangeFont 12-19-17 09:32 AM

Glad you got it going!

What is the oil pressure doing? Have you checked the oil for debris just to be sure?

The oil looked a little dark, but i didnt see any metal or anything. That was just on the dipstick. Ill probably drain and change the oil before the weekend. I was only going to run this oil for a rinse just in case any debris got inside the engine when i was grinding the valley for the LS6 Valley cover.

Lately the oil pressure has been hanging around 17psi at 650rpm, and going to about 27 at 2500 rpm. I remember when I first started the engine I had 60-80psi on cold start. So, last night it was bothering me, so I bypassed the original sender wire with another wire I made and I was getting around 25psi at hot idle, and around 40-45 at 1600 rpm just revving it in my driveway. Mind you the front was on jack stands. I cant trust these fucking Glowshift gauges. Its the same one I ran on my rotary engine, and I've already replaced the sender once. Im going to buy a cheap mechanical today and troubleshoot the sender.

insightful 12-19-17 11:40 AM

mechanical is the way to go, even digital defi and procomp gauges crap themselves after a couple years. issue with mechanical is mostly the flexing of the engine to firewall, a high pressure hydraulic hose is a bit more safe than the crappy nylon lines most manufacturers give you.

I know but i dont want to make a big oily mess in my center dash. Im not up to par on all the rules on the drag strip, but arent mechanical gauges for fluids forbidden in the cab?

LargeOrangeFont 12-20-17 08:40 AM

Sounds like you are good with that hot oil pressure. I’d just get a new sender/ better gauge.

I should add its a Melling 10296 high volume pump.

High volume does not equal high pressure

Yeah I know. I'm just not sure of the standard hot idle pressure of a 10296. Thats why I said it, and I wanted to make sure LOF know i wasnt running the OEM pump.

FührerTüner 12-20-17 07:41 PM

Installed a mechanical gauge in port where the digital sender was previously located. I'm getting 45psI at cold idle, 25 hot idle, cruising at 1500rpm I was getting 30-35, and WOT around 4500 - 5000rpm 50-55psi.

Doesn't seem like enough on the top end to me.

I'm a little low on oil. Going to put 6.5 quarts of 10w30 tomorrow when I change the oil and see what happens.

I just read on the LS forums that the fbody pan holds over 8 quarts of oil, and a lot of guys are running 7.5. I think this may be my problem. I've been running 5 quarts.

FührerTüner 12-20-17 09:35 PM

I couldnt take it anymore and had to go outside and drain the oil so I could have a look. What I found does not look good. Lots of fine metal dust. I'm really hoping this is from the cam bearings. I think im going to be sick.

fill it up, run it around a bit, and drain again, I'm sure its from the cam you put it breaking in cause that looks really fine. I wouldn't spew chunks yet. New filter and fill and go

I was thinking that (wishful thinking). I started reading about cams, as this is my first time dealing with a pistion engine to this extent.

What I read was that roller cams dont need to break in like flat tappet cams, because the bearings float on the oil.

I really hope youre right. I'll be changing the oil when I get off work tonight.

I'd like to also add that I read about 15 different LS posts about dust in the oil, and every one of them ended with engine failure. I'm sickened.

Also, it doesnt seem to be magnetic.

What spring did you put in the pump? I run it with the blue low pressure spring, which makes it close to stock. I run 20w50 oil though.

Pretty sure im running the blue spring. whatever came in it. I didnt change it.

What do you think about the particles in my oil? Did you do a cam swap? Notice anything in your oil?

LargeOrangeFont 12-21-17 06:31 PM

You didn’t change the cam bearings did you? Just the cam?

That does not look good, but I think the flash is making it look worse. Fill it up with oil and see if you still have oil pressure issues. The 10296 comes with the red high pressure spring installed. Are you sure you got the o ring on the pick up seated in the pump? That can cause low or weird oil pressure. You should have a lot of oil pressure with the red spring.

If the pickup is not sealed by the o ring properly, you’ll have high RPM oil pressure issues and areation of the oil that could kill the bearings.

FührerTüner 12-21-17 07:05 PM

Ok so... replaced the engine oil with 6.5 fresh quarts of 10w30 and changed the filter.
Pressure is now:

Cold idle 60psi
Hot idle 45psi
Cruising 55-60psi
WOT 80psi!

So I got the pressure back. I forgot to add I was running pig rich for about 20 miles to the exhaust shop due to open headers. The old oil smells very much like fuel. I believe it was diluted, and the filter may have been clogged. I went for a test drive today but unfortunately I didnt make it very far. Like a moron, i burned a hole in the nylon tubing for the mechanical gauge and spent the remainder of the day working on the side of the road.

I'm going to drive It 150 miles or so and drain the oil again and see what I have.

FührerTüner 12-21-17 07:47 PM

My phone is acting up. Please excuse the above post for any grammar issues. It won't let me edit.

And to answer your question LOF, I didnt change the cam bearings, just the cam, and I'm sure I didn't pinch the oring.

LargeOrangeFont 12-21-17 08:23 PM

Yea you have good oil pressure. Run it and see what happens. Keep an eye on it when the oil gets hot just to be sure. Should be about 20 PSI or more at hot idle.

FührerTüner 01-02-18 01:25 PM

250 mile oil change and im still seeing some dust. Some of the LS1 guys said if you cant feel it between your fingers its probably fine. Others were talking about COMP cams have some issues with improper lobe hardening, and that could be the dust.

Anywhoo, Ive sent an oil sample to Blackstone, I'll get back with the results.

I haven't updated in a while because I've been out enjoying the car. Oil pressures have been good. I had a harness pin issue that was two 5v circuit codes, that's been fixed. Had to relocate trans cooler. Haven't seen trans temps over 120f. And I burned a M5. Enjoying the car so far. Working on getting the smog done.

The front needs a little negative camber I think.

FührerTüner 09-05-18 10:13 AM

With the Z wheels I was really going for functionality. Cheap light wheels and 8.5 in the rear for some good traction. Then I threw functionality out the window when I decided I now care more about cosmetic. Some chinese stretched tires, and these wheels are 26lbs a piece! Fun though, I lit them up through 2nd gear and could have kept going. To be perfectly honest though, the car seems a lot easier to throw around, seems lighter. Dont know if it was the tires or what.
