Exciting FC Drift build!!!.......actually pretty average/ low budget

What up guys been building my FC on and off for the past three years and after seeing a few good build threads i am pumped on making my own and i hope it will give me the motivation to work on my FC more often, and dump more money into the endless pit of joy/agony. Before i start please check out this first gen build, i didnt think anything of first gens until i saw this:

https://www.rx7club.com/drifting-226...t-car-1038779/

So i bought my first FC at 18, didnt know a damn thing about cars, i often asked questions like, "how do coilovers work" "whats an open diff" "why cant i drift like ken block" "why dont girls talk to me"...... but over the years i gained much experience from friends, teachers and members of this forum, cant thank you guys enough, there were the smart asses who got pleasure making fun of a kid trying to learn, but that's their problem, they were probably teased a lot as children and now hate themselves but i wont get into that.

My first rx7 didnt make it more than 8 months before i threw her into a mountain God rest her poor soul... gone but never forgotten

I loved her greatly and feel awful for destroying a straight rx but it is what it is, and it led to me buying my new rex...and not all was lost, she was a heart donor

anyways so about 3 months in the water seals start to go, I believe this happened because i used hose water instead of coolant, from this experience i learned that this should never be done, kinda obvious but hey i was 18

so I threw her in a garage for 8 months while i had some fun with other vehicles including a baja bug, crotch rocket, miata, and an enduro, all very fun

Ok so school year passes and i feel like ive been around with enough vehicles, My girlfriend of three years has just dumped me and its summer, i need something to do, so i open up the garage and see an old friend

there was still the problem of the bad hose water seal failured engine, so i buy a convertible in LA for 700 bucks motor has 139k and the car itself a **** load of back fees, plus transmission issues, coulda got a better price maybe but hey i was in need of a car and this one was there for me

What I took from her,

--Aluminum hood

--Stock BBS rims with brand new tires

--5 lug SWAP!

--Motor

--radiator, battery, other small things

doing all of this in an apartment complex under an open carport, my neighbors LOVE ME

Side note, if you have never been to seven stock your life is pointless.... im serious... It was the coolest thing ive ever been to, you see a tricked out rx7 on the street and your like "oh **** thats sooo sick that guy must be a bro" well imagine being surrounded by hundreds of those, i felt as though i had died and gone to heaven, and i got to meet my favorite FC Drifter JTP!!

Got some new rims, 16x7, picked them up for 50 bucks so cant complain but the negative offset is ridiculous i wish they stuck out more but whatever, and at the time i had drift spares in the rear so my friend sent this to me after doing a ghetto photoshop job, but you get the idea of how they look on the car, fronts are real

So now for the drift stuff, I installed some DTSS eliminators, welded the diff, tightened up the coilovers, removed the front sway bar, stripped the rear interior (plans of welding in cage or bar) rear strut tower bar, rb headers to striaght pipe holy **** its loud getting muffler soon, pics will come too

--Building my first motor right now, going to street port and add a lightweight flywheel, will get pics of that asap also, thanks for reading!!

Oh and one last thing, F*** that stock angle, its pathetic, im purchasing a set of Ambercrombie knuckles next week, i hope my wheels dont hit the inner wall too bad

Mini update

Finally started porting my housings after being lazy for the past three weeks, measured my apex seals and side seals for re use also, they are within spec and will be reused, FRANKEN ROTOR!!! I think the ports came out alright for my first time.

What i learned: If you are going to port, make sure you use a ridiculous amount of tape for protection, when that bit jumps, it jumps hard and can go right through the tape so take your time and make it smooth

Hey guys big update, soooo i realized that i want to be able to drive mountains as well as slide so ive decided to rebuild my lsd and swap it for the welded i have on there now. When i say rebuild i mean cut metal from the inner left plate (.030 to be exact) so that the clutches are more tightly packed

Also the local muffler guy gave me a obx muffler, super ricey but i like the look haha and for free i cant complain so im gunna franken stein weld some random pieces of steel tube together to make a cat back exhaust on the cheap

Update

Ok so ive decided to run the motor i have in the car for a little longer, still having trouble finding housings for my rebuild

and for any of you guys with a RACING BEAT LIGHT WEIGHT FLYWHEEL, you need SPACERS, i will say that again, SPACERS that you can purchase from mazda trix, to bolt the pressure plate on properly, dont be like me and pull the tranny only to figure this out

as for the car, i finally purchased some drift knuckles from my buddy rudy i think his company name is teale motorsports or something like that, here they are

Size: 65.1 KB

AND HOLY **** DO THEY WORK, the day i installed them i got sideways like never before, this may not be the first mod you wanna do to slide, but id say it should come very soon, after you get your suspension and rear end tight

the knuckles made my manual steering nearly impossible to turn tho its a power rack with pump removed, so im going to install that this week hopefully, guys on the rx7 face book page have been extremely helpfull with selling parts to me for cheap

and im putting this here just because

learning

so this is what i get from using those cheap 5mm spacers that fit over the lugs, it stressed out my studs so much that it stripped the splines, ****

time for some real spacers 38 mm baby!!! go big or go home

ps im still rubbing in the front, my angle is ridiculous
