I entered a video contest for free lasik eye surgery. They asked "why should we give you free lasik?" My response was basically, "because race car." I'd appreciate the community's votes... Was going to autox this Saturday but withdrew my entry because I had my doubts about the low oil warning at high g corners. I asked around at the race car tech subforum about this and decided to go for a baffle plate to help prevent the oil from sloshing around. (I haven't gotten around to buying one yet) Didn't know about these things before. Also I didn't know that Mazda took the time to change the oil pan and install a plate when the FDs came around. RB suggests using 2 pan gaskets when adding the baffle plate.

That oil pan baffle is no joy to install on an engine in-car.....ask me how I know.

You can do it with an engine lift. The oil pan can come off only when the passenger side motor mount comes out (3 big bolts underneath the engine run through the pan). Other than that, piece of cake! ;) Also as a last ditch effort, you can overfill the oil a bit. Many will bitch at me for that, but again, last minute at the track, need oil... go for it.

Regarding the baffle:

Usually an extra quart in the pan during autox's and track events keeps me safe, and I don't have a baffle. Try that out and see :)

I'm also running the Banzai Oil Pan Brace, which does away with the oem gaskets. Just use RTV Grey or The Right Stuff and you'll have no leaks. It's also a PITA to install :)

+1 on just using silicon, you will not find a factory engine with a gasket on the oil pan, the factory uses silicon (Mazda part number 8527-77-739).
