I’ve been doing a rebuild on my 1991 n/a rx7. I had the engine rebuilt by a Mazda racing mechanic and now I’ve put the engine back in and can’t get the car to start. It turns over and seems like it wants to start, but stumbles and won’t fully engage. I have good spark, but I am starting to think it could be a fuel injector problem. The leading plugs are dry, but when i pull the trailing plugs they are wet so I think the engine is flooding. After some research I think my old fuel injectors may be the problem. What do people recommend for fuel injectors….should i look for re-manufactured injectors, or go to newer tech? I’ve heard newer injectors may not need the plastic diffuser plates (the plastic diffusers seemed odd to me when installing the injectors). Today i re-established proper timing by lining up the yellow mark on the pulley with the pin on the front cover, and I then removed and re-installed the CAS according to the FSM. Any further help would be massively appreciated.

Now I’m thinking i could have a sticky apex seal…if i pull 1 spark plug i hear 1 loud woosh, followed by 2 quieter wooshes. It’s this way in each rotor housing. What have people done in the past to free up the apex seals on a new build to allow them to seat?
You could try adding a little 2stroke oil into the chambers via the spark plugs to boost compression and help the car get running. Things will start setting and bedding in as it runs.
