1991 FC RX7 S5 TurboII from Romania

Hey guys, so I finally decided to start a thread year after almost 1 year of lurking around.

I finally managed to get my hands on a Brilliant Black S5 Turbo II, production year 1991, last year in November. A buddy of mine from Greece, who is a rotary tuner there "Rotary Secret Garage", recommended the car, which was located on the island of Paros, in the middle of the Mediterranean Sea. So naturally I contacted the owner and after seeing a few videos of the car in action, I booked a nearly 3 hour flight to go buy the car. After fixing this and that to make it more European roads legal, I drove all the way back home, 1300 kms in total.

The car came with a few good bits and pieces like: Sparco Sprint driver seat, a replica deep dish steering wheel, HKS BOV, HKS Air Filter, Amemiya Downpipe (full exhaust of different makes I believe), and separately from the car, an Amemiya Boost Gauge, another Oil Pressure Gauge, a spare Intercooler and the list goes on.

Got the car for a fairly good price, but it does have a lot of issues too.

One of the main issues I've been having sounds something like this. When driving back, I noticed that under WOT, on some occassions (most of them) I would get a kind of choking/hesitation at around 4000RPM, and the car would not continue to accelerate. I noticed that if I do not go WOT, it won't behave the same. Now I've changed the ignition coils and the spark plugs, new oil inside the car, new air filter, and the hesitation is at around 6000 RPM, but not every time. At least if it doesn't happen in 2nd, it will happen on 3rd. After hours and hours of reading, I can only guess that it is because the original owner had installed the full exhaust, and he had a Haltech ECU too, but when he sold me the car, he wanted to sell the ECU Separately, and I didn't get it, so I guess she's overboosting and cutting power?

There's also an HKS FCD installed, but not sure if it's still working or not. I do hope that I'll manage to solve this with my new ECU.

After having the car in a garage for 8 months (they were building racecars and restoring Lambos so I guess the FC didn't matter to them), I got it back, managed to barely pass Romanian Inspection, and I'm going to take her to another garage, to start installing the parts I've purchased. (I've already installed HSD MonoPro coilovers, Stoptech Slotted Rotors with Hawk Racing Pads and BiggRed rebuilt calipers, a large Koyo NRadiator, Hel Braided Brake Lines and Clutch Line)
- Adaptronic M2000
- AEM High Output Smart Coils
- Innovate Wideband AFR
- Aeromotive 340 Stealth Fuel Pump

From various discussions I've gathered that if i also get a Vmount Intercooler and new injectors, the car could be "safely" tuned to 300 hp, which does sound interesting

Looking forward to reading more of your stories too!
