The new engine is in the car and I started hooking things up already. I plan to have it fired up by 5pm. Ill post back tonight with results! Im pumped!

 

Unfortunately I did not get the car started, there was just too much to do in too little of time plus I had to take out some time from working on my car to hangout with my girlfriend so that put a damper on things. I will have it started today without a doubt. I only have simple things left to do like hook up the fuel lines, put a nut on a motor mount, put some electrical tape around a spliced connection for oil pressure sensor, tighten fan shroud to rad, and fill it up on fluids and done.

 

I got the car started. It took a few minutes to get the engine to start but it runs good. The car is super loud because Im running only headers at the moment. I need to custom make a foot long pipe with an adapter at the end to hook up the full exhaust. I need to bleed the clutch too. There was a small leak at the fuel return hose but that is because I rushed and didnt push the hose on far enough Ill fix it tonight. I need to get the oil cooler onto the new mount too there isnt enough room for it to slide over the studs. It should be on the road in about 2 weeks.

Mounting the oil cooler is a pain, that was the last part I installed too.

 

Thanks! Im so happy its running and running right at that. I fixed the fuel return hose leak and I think I figured out how to mount the oil cooler on the one side. Its mounted just the one mount broke and I swapped it with another oil cooler mount I had laying around, thank god for that!

 

I started the car up and pulled it out of the garage. Let it run, I realized my coolant temp gauge doesnt work so Im going to swap the sensor with the one on my other engine. The oil cooler hose on top the oil cooler is leaking at the crush washer so I need to tighten that. The throttle cable is alittle too tight so that needs to adjusted but overall the car runs really well.

 

Don't tighten the oil cooler hose as you'll probably just split the oil cooler's threaded port. If the cooler isnt already split, you'll want to get a new crush washer (if aluminum) or anneal it (if copper). You can anneal aluminum too but they tend to liquefy sudden with no warning.

 

I didnt think of that but it actually might be loose. I tried to get the hose off there when I was taking the engine out because it was being a pain to get it off right at the engine. I might have loosened it enough to leak alittle. My oil cooler uses cooper crush washers.

 

vrracing, I was thinking that even if the bolt wont tighten I have a few spare crush washers laying around I can use. They are used but they will work.

 

I have two split oil coolers. Not sure how that happened!

If you haven't annealed cooper before it is easy. I just use a wire clothes hanger to hold the washer and a mapp gas torch. Heat it until it glows a dark red and then dunk it in the toilet. Then I wet sand it on a glass table until my wife catches me... uh... until it is clean and shiny on both sides!

I also put a little RTV under the head of bolt as insurance so I'm not tempted to go all neanderthal on it.

Wow that sucks! I dont think mine is split, it doesnt look like it is. I have 1 oil cooler sitting around but I dont want to use it unless need be. I never have annealed copper but it doesnt sound that hard. My buddy has a torch that I can use the only hard part will be getting the damn oil cooler hose off the oil cooler. It would not come loose I actually ended up ripping the 10mm studs out of the rubber mount on the oil cooler trying to get it off. I replaced the mount just need to fix that leak so I can put my plastic undertray back on.

 

Yeah the thing with the splits is that they are pretty much invisible to the naked eye. But with 60psi of oil behind it... And since the widest part of that split is right by the banjo bolt's washer, it makes it look like the bolt just needs to be tightened just a little bit more!

 

Hm I guess its a possibility but it never leaked until I tried to loosen it. When I had the blown engine running that hose didnt leak after I tried to take that hose off and put the new engine in it started leaking really slowly. It looks like its only the top crush washer leaking.

 

I have not done much to the car the past few days other then adjust the throttle cable and put the hood back on. I still have to swap the P/S and A/C units to the newly installed engine from the old engine but that won't take long at all. Starting tomorrow me and my stepdad are going to work on getting the middle of the exhaust hooked up so I can put the car on the road asap. I seriously cannot wait to drive this car! Owned it for 2 years and the most I have driven it was around my driveway!

 

 

Looks like that paint needs some love. If you ever wanna come down to my place I do detailing on the side! I got a nice DA polisher and stuff.

 

What possible good do you think the stock intake snorkel is doing?

 

The paint does need some love. It has some swirls from the previous owner doing a shitty job washing the car. Mustve used some type of brush. I washed it, still have not done any buffing. I have the **** to buff it out I just havent done it yet. I plan on a full detail when the car will be road ready. It was covered in a layer of dirt from sitting for 2 years. Well, Clokker, The stock intake snorkel resting on the fan shroud actually does do something man. When the car is driving air rushes into the snorkel and blows it into the breather filter and air intake filter. Its better then it just sucking in hot air ha. Jeez some of you people need to relax haha.

 

Good to see things coming together on your vert, slowly but surely you'll be back on the road.

 

Yea Im guessing by the middle of May I'll have the car on the road.

 

Power steering unit has been installed. The largest pulley is missing some bolts so right now I have no power steering. I need to fix the pulley as soon as possible. I'm going to try to get my exhaust together tomorrow.

 

Waiting for my paycheck on the 10th so I can get this car on the road. I'd say by the end of next week I will hopefully be driving the car!

 

Ordering a 2" to 3" exhaust pipe adapter off Amazon through EMUSA Racing in a few minutes. When it gets here the exhaust will be completed and the car will be on the road within a few days. Can't wait! I also need the largest pulley and bolts for the power steering unit. I forgot I never had the right bolts so I've had no power steering since day 1. If anyone has one laying around for sale PM me. Thanks.
