The return of my first car!

Well years ago I created my account on this Forum to get help with my little orange 83 RX7. I knew nothing about cars back then but had always wanted a FD since a little kid. It was my dream car! I never put posters of Lambos or Ferraris, always the FD.

So when a cheap FD came up for sale I sold my little orange car name Sophia to a buddy of mine and bought what turned out to be my demise. Of course one day when I can afford to get another FD I will now that I know more about how to take care of them but thats not what this story is about!

This story is about my 83 RX7 and the troubles its gone threw since I sold it
Almost a month after I sold it it rear ended someone and got left alone for about 8 months before going back on the road with one headlight and with the one working one pointing the wrong way.

I didnt know this until last month when he let me borrow it for a night and that was when I realized I need to buy it back. The trans is going, the rear diff most likely needs to be replaces as its leaking way to fast, it had no coolant and needed an oil change badly.

So after my manual swap is done in my Datsun 510 I will be taking back my first car that I regret ever selling and giving it a HUGE makeover.

Here are some before and after pics that I can find right now.

Now the owner before me put big speakers in behind the seats and I was never really a fan of them and neither is my friend as they arent really the best so I will be taking them out.

My goal for this car is going to be a street legal weekend warrior as the 510 will be my daily driver.

So im wondering if anyone can suggest a good diff/gear ratio to go with.

Right now its a streetported 12a with a carb I honestly cant even remember so I was thinking of switching it out since it probably needs a good tune anyways (unless its a good carb that is lol)

Its got a full RB exhaust so I have no worries there other than checking for any exhaust leaks it may have gotten over the years.

I plan on swaping motors once this one is toast. The goal is a 20b but it all depends on my money at the time so we shall see.

Looks like a nice car and good to hear that you can get your car back.

For a rear end, if you're not GSL or GSL-SE I'd just try to find a full rear axle from one of those trim models and get the LSD with the disk brake setup.

Good luck with the build!

So I took it to the track and somehow passed tech haha.
Was a gamble trying to get in with a broken door handle and no battery tie down with loose wires everywhere from taking the rear subs out the night before so I hit up Canadian Tire in the morning and got to the track an hour early to get **** done.

Someone go a few snaps of my car which was pretty cool, the car ran really well other than loosing traction due to rain and shitty old tires haha. Was a blast and a real learning experience as I havent driven a solid rear axle in a longgggg time.

My best lap I locked the breaks after the finish line and hit a DNF cone D:
It was my fastest lap by a good 2 seconds so that was a little disappointing.

Here are the pic's. They arent mine so there on a friends Flickr account.

The car is going to be sitting most of the winter as I dont need a daily since my work is so close and I really want to freshen up the paint but before I could take it to its resting place it decided to **** the bed and not start anymore.

Ended up having to replace the starter (though I bet the old one would have worked), battery cables, spark plug wires, and I cleaned the plugs up a bit after realizing I had flooded the motor while trying to fix it drunk.....that was a bad idea lol

After everything she started up like a charm and havent had a problem since (going to turn the motor over and drive it around the lot a bit every now and then)

On a side note!
I forgot when I got the car orignally that it came with a WEBER 45DCOE so thanks to the help of you folk i figured out the jetting would work so Im ordering a rebuild kit for it and just recently purchased a manifold so I can use it!

Time for the HATERS GUNNA HATE update of this build!!!!!!
My main goal is to get a widebody for the car but god knows how longs thats going to be since I will need money for the kit/tires/wheels/bodywork etc etc.... so in order to pep the cars look up a bit I decided on a new colour until I go black with the widebody.

I have always wanted to do something crazy colour on a car and when I owned my Miata Pink was something I wanted to do just because of all the gay jokes :P

Yes you heard me right, PINK! Not any pink tho.....Satin Pink!!!!

Watching my friend mix it I was a little scared and because the paints wet you dont really get the full idea of satin until you spray it. Sooooooo we made a spray bomb and I sprayed my vented headlight cover from my Miata to get a good idea of what its going to look like. To be honest I think it will look pretty sweet in the end, though the photo really doesnt do it any justice.

So here you go! My future colour!!!!!!!

Finally found some bins to fill the void behind the seats, ended up buying them in the dark and regretting that decision bahahaha.

Found a thread about gorilla taping the bin lids back to the bins so im going to go that route but I need to figure out a ghetto way to make a clip for one of the bins as one didnt have it (its also broken on the corner).

Going to be sanding down the bits of rust off the metal bits assembly and painting it with rust paint before installing. Also if anyone knows the bolts that are supposed to be used to bolt this all together I would love to know since I didnt get any hardware haha.

He still had the carpet for the bins but it was in terrible shape so I trimmed it and cleaned it in preparation to re-dye it black.

Also while finally getting to the wires left behind from the subs I noticed the rest of the interior carpet was faded to all hell so I will be dying it as well and repainting some trim pieces. The big problem were the bits of rust I found in the wheel wheels so thats going to be a side project before the interior makes it back into the car.

I will post some pics up a little bit later.

Waiting for an update on this project. Have you made up your mind if you're going to boost the engine?
