Yes, the SA was '79-'80 and the FB was '81-'85. The production date on this one is either 11/78 or 12/78.. I forget, I need to check again lol. It's not super early production but it's still a '78

Hmm, not sure which wheels you're talking about but I've seen these Almex keyholes on a Cosmo and it looked nice

These did come as a factory option on the '79 GS though, they're pretty rare and I have 5 of them

Thanks, and it runs great considering I was told it's all original and never opened. It leads me to believe the 89k reading on the odometer is just that and not 100k more.

Oh, and that's on 1/4 tank of fuel and no settling. I'll take pictures sometime after I fill up tomorrow.

Your Almex "Keyholes" are rare just as the Spark yellow color is. I've never known anyone who knew the real story behind those rims. They may have been a factory option in Mazda's home market and you could actually order your preference, but here in the states it seems they only appeared on Spark Yellow cars. Not every spark car mind you but just that color, never any other. Some have made their way to other cars over the years but the exact story behind these rims is still a mystery. BTW, nice car. This color always strikes a chord with many people.

I read somewhere that they were only sold on 1979 GS models sold in the Southeast US... which makes sense in my case seeing as it's a FL car. Thanks for the kind words too!

Here's a few pics of the spare after I stripped it, I'm pretty sure that's still 1978 Nitto rubber

I sold my AEM intake and AWR endlinks from the Protege and used the money on some speakers because I'm tired of turning my radio up just to hear blown *** **** :P

Rears:
Pioneer TS-G1343R 5.25" 25 Watt 2-Way Car Speaker Pair 140 Watts Max 5 1/4"

Fronts:
KICKER KS35 3.5" 2-WAY KS SERIES 2-WAY SPEAKERS 11KS35

Storage bin lids:
2011 (2) KICKER DS65 6.5" 200W 2 Way

Since I decided to spend money on speakers I installed the radio that I had in my Protege.. Sorry about the pic quality and rotation issue, they're straight off my phone.

It fits perfect with the screen flipped out and now I can control the sub separate from the rest.

Oh, and I also had a little issue with the rear latch. One day it wouldn't lock.. after messing with it it wouldn't unlock lol. Now it's all fixed though!

Since I got a good side view pic of my car today I put this together..

Aside from the drop, the other thing that really sticks out is the wheels. Just seeing this pic makes it worth the hours spent fixing up those wheels.

I've never heard the rumor about keyholes only being regionally available. You normally only see them on Spark cars though, even ones from California. 1979 cars all came with Bridgestone rubber. RD-106's, 185/75R-13 for the GS and 165's for the S models. I'm always learning something new about these cars, but I've never known of an Rx-7, even an early build 78 car to have come from the factory with any other tire.

After spending some time in wreck yards and messing with my car I got some work done. I trimmed up a Ford Tarus rad fan and installed it on the front side of the rad because I couldn't get it to fit behind. I'm pretty sure my clutch fan is a piece of **** anyways.. all seems to be good though. I would like to get a thermostat switch for it but for now I'll just manually switch it. It blows a lot more air than the stupid clutch fan though.. we'll see.

I also swapped out the stock "golf cart" horns for the horns out of my Protege, she's bit louder now :P
