another update.
did some painting and a little more assembly.
i have to do a little clearancing on the fd upper intake to get it to clear the secondary fuel rail, i never noticed that it didnt clear. should be done with that tomorrow. after that im going to have to mess with the throttle body and figure out how im going to clean it up.

thanks!
little bit of an update that has nothing to do with the engine. got some nice weather today and felt like this old girl deserved a wash and wax.
still gotta take some simply green to the rear bumper to remove the exhaust stain. prolly do that tomorrow.

not trying to high jack the thread so apologize in advance, but just to clarify and i know this has been beaten to death, to get the s5 t2 to bolt up you just swap a gsl-se front cover and oil pan, what do you do about ignition? does the "dizzy" get replaced by the cas so to speak? does it swap right in place, also where do you tap in for oil return from the turbo?
i am at a crossroads with my build, i have a 84 gs but i found an 85 gslse and doing my s5 t2 swap in the 85 just seems so much more cost efficient and seeing this build thread just makes me anxious to get rolling on it, sorry for the thread jack just a tad bit confused haha

well the whole thing is the red 85 gslse i wanna buy has nice paint, nice gray interior, it already has lsd, it has the 13b, so my 84 would thus turn into the parts car for the gslse, the way i figure is the time money and effort put into making the gsl the swap car wouldnt be cheaper than just getting the red gslse, i just feel like a 1000 for the gslse is alot, its not in perfect shape but close....
just frustrated haha thanks for the info though and i am jealous you are starting to get your build started

Its time for me to start collecting parts
Are you using the full S5 ignition system, and does Megasqrirt control the ignition as well?
I bought my first RX7 in Dec. Its a 85 GSL-SE. Your project looks great and a model for my build. Are you still in the PDX area. I'm up the river in Hood River. would like to see it.
Are there Tuners with Dynos in PDX? Does most of the sensors/dash instru. still work?

im work by the airport in portland everyday, you can come see it anytime.
there are a few places that do tuning in pdx, but i dont know of any that really do megasquirt stuff. im planning on tuning myself, i have a little experiance with maft-pro and stinger ems. im using the fd tps, fc cps, fd intake air temp, coolant temp, and fd idle controller (hopefully). im going to use a gm 3 bar map sensor. i think the only gauge it will change is the tach, which seems pretty easy to hook up.

Tore apart the throttle body and did some painting
also hook up the turbo lines (except the drain), shortened my oil filler pipe to clear the fd intake, made a custom gasket that helped seal the fd intake a lil better. i also had to grind the fd upper a little to clear the secondary fuel rail.
im finally running out of things to put on the engine before i can start the megasquirt/wiring.

not really a big update but i have gotten a few little things checked off my to-do list.
Made some block off plates out of 1/4" aluminum plate
I also rebuilt & cleaned my fuel injectors. i dropped one of the secondary fuel rail bolts down the intake and had to disassemble everything to find the bolt in the secondary port.
needed a flywheel stopper and didnt really want to buy one.
ive been collecting connectors and wiring bits to start on the megasquirt project. if everything goes according to plan i should buy my megasquirt in about 3 weeks.

Thanks!
Im using an s4 mechanical omp that im going to modify for a seperate oil tank filled with 2 stroke oil. im going to attempt a control system with a linkage similar to a bike cable.
you should be able to use your omp with that setup, the s4 t2 tb should have a provision for the omp rod.

Slowly but surely

nice, this is pretty much what i'd like to do to my GSL-SE as well. thing that scares me is the wiring. do you mind discussing the wiring a bit? all i've read is that it's easier going w/ a standalone (versus stock ECU) but what exactly needs to be done? I can remove, install engine, etc but when it comes to wiring, i'm a total newb. tia.
edit: sorry, you can PM me so I don't thread jack. thx
