So its been a while and i have since stayed and completed the tw swap into my fc. I pulled my sa into my garage and have started to pull it apart again. Took all the front apart and almost everything from the engine bay minus a thing or two (Including the engine). Took out almost all the interior, but im having slight issues with the dash. Gonna find a job, get the car in to be mediablasted, then i can get to work on putting it back together. Though i will most likely go interiorless, since a lot of it was actually pretty bad and the whole car reeks like stale dust.
Engine wasn't decarbonizable, so i took everything out and now i just need a friend who can lift their half of 200lbs to pull the keg.
Brutal rust in the back. Hopefully i can fix that.
Finally got the engine out. Pretty excited as I take it apart. I don't have a stand yet, but i will when I put it back together. I couldn't spin the engine at all, so i figured it was carbon locked. As soon as I tried to crank the flywheel bolt, the rotors broke free and now spins easily. I was pretty choked. I would've drove it as it was for a while if the engine would've turned over. So after a breaker bar, cheater bar, a lot of curse words, my impact gun and a propane torch, I got the flywheel nut off. Gotta say, a 54mm nut wasn't the best idea they came up with when designing this car.

Rear rotor housing. All my seals are good, so I'm not sure why this happened.
Is there a way to tell if your seals are still good? I've got no info on its history, so it could have been rebuilt at one point. 4x,xxxkms on the odometer, but who knows how many times is been rolled over.
I was thinking of rebuilding my s4 13b and dropping that in, but that seems like it will be pretty difficult (unlike my 13bt swap into my s4). I also only have [slightly less than] the long block, so no ignition coils or anything, and i feel like that will be way more work and money than its worth. Ive tried looking into it, but there isn't really any direct parts lists. Any links to a parts list? I know there is more hp potential, but I'm not sure on what exactly is needed.
Cool. I'm glad you got the engine out and torn down. There is so much potential sitting there. I'm salivating at the R5 irons.
Everyone here knows what I would do with those parts. In fact I'm about to embark on a couple R5 builds myself soon. But a couple Y builds will have to come first.
If it sounds like I'm speaking in code, then you sir need to bone up on your rotary research.
You've got so much potential there it isn't even funny.

Thanks Jeff, good to get some more confidence that this is a project worth taking on. I've tried to do some research on how to tell exactly what engines are out of but with no avail, but now that i have some code words then that will help with the search.
So Jeff, you're saying i should definitely stick with the 12a instead of swapping in my 13b? If i were to swap, then i would need all the ignition coils and wiring harness and such, right?
While following the fsm on engine disassembly, it said from the top middle to the right was 3, 6 then 11, with 18 bolts in total. I only had 3 and 6 (or 11), 17 bolts in total. Why is that?
