Dissassembly of the fc has started....It should be a lot closer to out tomorrow. I did some shopping today

msd fuel pump
acv block off
rb front mount bracket
fuel filter
maf adapter for intake
fuel line clamps
oil filter gauge sandwich plate

money is tight for this build so that is gonna be it for the shopping...decided on using the stock exhaust manifold with the presilencer that came with the car straight back to my prima flow....it should be quiet enough and still make the stock horse powere levels (146hp or so)

got some more disassembly done on the fc tonight. Ignition and cooling system is out of the way including the coils, radiator, coolant and fan shroud. Also removed and set aside the ps pump and a/c compressor since I didnt feel like having power steering fluid all over the place and the a/c system is still charged (good selling point). I removed the mounting bracket for both of these so I can actually see the oil cooler lines that I need to disconnect still. Her is how I left the car tonight...

I also cleaned up a 12a front cover I had laying around

still have to deal with heater hoses and labeling some more pieces of the wiring harness in the engine bay. Then I will pull the engine and tranny together.

I was under the car this past weekend and saw what a nice piece it is...be a shame not to use it. Besides I could put the $400 bucks it would cost for the header I wanted to better use on the build. Thanks again Curt for a great deal.

This might save me quite a bit of work...

just picked up a complete wire harness all stripped out and ready for install. From what I hear its about 10-15 hrs to get the harness to this point, so I think it was a worthwile purchase. here is a link to the for sale thread...check the pics of that engine bay....SUPER CLEAN

The parts have started to arrive...

13b gslse oil pan

racing beat engine mount bracket, and oil filter sandwich plate as well as a new fc fuel filter and acv block off

I was able to get some more bits off the car. AC has fully been removed and will be for sale shortly as well as some other bits. Intake is off to clear the harness and unplug injectors. Here is how the car was left yesterday

tomorrow will be a big day as the drivetrain will finally be out and the shell will be readied to be removed

also had to place another order to mazdatrix for replacement gaskets for the intake, injector o ring (I figured after 25 years it was time) egr block off, front rear main seals etc. My MSD fuel pump also arrived

I also have a fuel system question. I have seen some set ups(turbo mostly) where the low pressure pump is retained and feeds a swirl tank (in the engine bay) where the higher pressure pump takes the fuel to the rail, much like a mercedes or cummings diesel set up. Are there any advantages to setting up a car like this for NA application??? Can I get away with replacing my fb fuel pump with the msd unit and call it done?

Ok got a bit more done today. The fc drivetrain is finally out. I have never really worked on these before although I owned one briefly...holy **** there is a lot of crap in there! I am not really a fan of the fc...nothing personal just not my taste. So it has been paining me to troll the 2nd gen section looking for info. Really the only info I need is the rats nest deletion stuff and I think I got what I need...I will let you know lol. Anyway here is how the day ended...

FC running gear out!

and here come some items that will be going in a for sale thread in the not too distant future

a minty FC Hood

a complete set of gxl wheels with all matching dry rotted bf goodrich tires lol

and probably this fc oil cooler with lines

I still have to pull the harness and the pcm but I am happy with the progress. I was on vacation this week and hoping to get more done but my newborn took most of my attention as well as the fact it was "back to school week" here in NY so my other kids got the rest of my attention.. o well sometimes its like that and family comes first!

our new born Lena

my crazy son 14yrs old

and my daughter Laila

These 3 would be the reason my build threads drag on forever lol...

almost forgot here is the manifold down pipe and presilenser I will attempt to run with my prima flow muffler, should be quiet enough to disturb the peace.

Making great progress. Agreed, FC's are so much more complicated to work on than an FB.

I'm not an S4 expert (S5's are more my style) but I can lend a hand if you need. I know my way around a swap lol Let me know if you need help

How do I get myself into these predicaments???

Well to update this The drivetrain is out and the fc has gone to scrap minus the parts I pulled off to sell.

while this was all happening I had a friend who was selling something I couldn't resist so I went and picked it up

1979 Base I got it as a roller with a complete SP exhaust system header to prima flow

I bought the car with the intention of dropping in my SP12a that I built over the winter but then other things started happening...like the dell carb and 13b 6port mani that came up for sale and the lure of dropping this 13b motor in there might be too much for me to resist...I was almost able to picture it...S4 13b, carter pump, holley reg, with dellorto and racing beat mani...(sexy piece)

So this build might take a turn, Im not sure yet. Advice and opinions are welcomed.

What a score! Man, do what you have resources for and what you feel like doing. Looks nice. How's it look on the underside? Any rust issues? Like the RWL tires too. Wish we could still get them.

Thanks...there is only one or two spots that concern me and I started tearing into one of them today. Looks good from what I can see. I have a 5 speed from a 79 that will bolt right up and would just be missing a few odds and ends to make this happen.

here is the one rust spot I am working on...

and here is what it looked like after a little picking and cleaning

and here is what it looked like after I cut it out...yes I said I cut it out lol

here is a pic f the metal behind that I need to address as well, I bet most of this was caused a by a leaky antenna hole...

Thankfully this is really the only rust on the car, but you can see how a "small spot " can become a bigger deal
I still need to fab up a patch panel and tack it in, but maybe I should make a seperate thread since this is a different car...lol
