84 RX-7 Convertible Fabrication Video
Some of you might enjoy seeing this video of a convertible project I did in 1990. I bought a wrecked 84 RX-7, rolled over and the rear end destroyed, definitely not worth repairing. But it had only 15k miles and the interior was perfect. My friend had a 79 rear clip, and he agreed to fit and weld it onto my chassis, and then I would take it from there. I used 1/8 inch steel plate, inside under the carpets, to reinforce the chassis. I used a Fiat Spyder convertible top, which had to be narrowed to fit. Some friends were getting ready to scrap an RX-2, so I took it and used the rear body section, trunk, tail lights and bumpers, plus cutting pieces out of the roof for some of the body panels. I even used the stainless rain gutter trim to make the grille. My son, who was just finishing high school, helped me with some of the fabrication.
The video is from an old VHS tape and the quality is poor, but you can see what is going on.
