'83 FB RX7 California Build

Hey everyone. I want to share with you guys my current RX7 build from day 1.

Enjoy!

Purchased off an old friend for roughly $600. It was his first car and wanted to hold on to it but after parking it for 7 years, he finally decided to let her go to a good home.

I purchased an authentic Kamei front air dam...

...as well as an authentic Mariah Motorsports wing.

'83 FB RX7 California Build-up0wqza.jpg

The next step was to strip the interior in preparation for paint.

I continued to gather parts prior to sending her off to the body shop.

By far, my favorite detail is the fender-mounted Talbot mirrors. I wanted something subtle and I think it's a great look for the car.

That looks great. I really like the mirrors, and wow you can paint. Red with a black interior is nice.

I take absolutely no credit for the paint job, a great shop in San Diego did the work for me.

Thanks!

You might want to host your images on a site other than photobucket. We can't see them unless you pay the ransom.

Damn, I didn't realize Photobucket had changed since the last time I used it.

I'll fix it, thanks for the heads up!

that's my car , almost. Mine is all oem minus a few space wasting things. Only thing I don't like about my car is the a/c cannot keep up with the sun beating down on all that rear hatch back glass.

Should I spring for a new compressor?

Thanks guys.

My plan for the drivetrain is to swap in a low-compression 13b with a single turbo. My power goals aren't ridiculous, I'd like to be somewhere in the 350-400 whp with somewhere around 15 lbs of boost.

I've been reading a lot of good reviews about rotaryengine.com. Does anyone have first-hand experience with them?

The project continues!

I finally moved the car over to my house so I can work on it more frequently:

'83 FB RX7 California Build-pfooqyj.jpg

'83 FB RX7 California Build-2rdhykp.jpg

'83 FB RX7 California Build-kap7jyv.jpg

First up are T3 Coilovers. I went with Swift springs with 275lbs up front and 150lbs in the rear.

'83 FB RX7 California Build-wuwjd1i.jpg
'83 FB RX7 California Build-j6q5vnj.jpg

'83 FB RX7 California Build-eoyrkyw.jpg

I also picked up the top mounts from T3 to go with the coilovers.

'83 FB RX7 California Build-krye9dt.jpg

New tie rod ends

'83 FB RX7 California Build-mw3aopy.jpg

I also swapped over to a full GSL-SE suspension. Up front are brand new rotors/hubs, bearings, pads, and stainless steel lines.

Under the hood, I have a new Koyorad radiator, Racingbeat hoses, new brake/clutch master cylinders, and a few odd and ends from Atkins Rotary.

Out back, I took out the old gas tank because it was in rough shape and installed an ATL fuel cell. It fit like a glove.

Got a few more updates:

The fuel cell is all plumbed and functioning perfectly well. I'll need to add some grommets or sleeves to protect the lines from chaffing.

I also installed new rear struts for the lift gate. I had to get creative with how to mount one of the struts haha.

Next up was the GSL-SE rear end. It's been dressed up with new pads, rotors, and a T3 rear coilover kit.

Enjoy!

Had to make a little bit of room for the rear coilover to clear the factory exhaust heat shield but it looks good now:
