1985 Mazda Rx-7 GSL-SE 55k original mile Nut and bolt OEM NOS Restoration
whats up guys. Well the time has come. Over the years i have been collecting New old stock parts for me 85 SE. I got the entire interior brand new in Mazda packing besides the seats. and other misc pieces that are still in new condition. As for the body, it is rust free accident free, perfect running 55k mile car. Starts up every time and runs like it just came out the show room floor. A perfect candidate for a full blown restoration.
Last year somebody broke into my garage while i was on vacation and managed to steal the front bumper, front valance, header panel and driver side fender. Why they didn't take the whole car is beyond me but IL take that over the whole car.
Oem Mazda parts were not very hard to source at all for the car. Long story short i got the front end parts back on and aligned very well. Now i want to send it out for body work (Any GREAT body man recommendations would be great!) in NJ. Remember this is going to be a show piece so i would need them to do a perfect job. not much work that needs be done just dings and little things of that nature.
Once i get her back from the body shop i want to take the car completely apart so i can label all the bolts and nuts so i can get them all new. then i will worry about sending out the car and body parts out for paint.
Also the only thing Im worried about on this interior is that little section rubbed off on the drivers bolster. ( it annoys the hell out of me) its only on the vinyl section. i was hoping i can get somebody to just replace that section of vinyl so if anybody know somebody that can do that to oem burgundy spec would be awesome also!!

Looking forward to following this one!
I have been doing something somewhat similar and have built up a stockpile of NOS parts myself. However, your comment "Oem Mazda parts were not very hard to source at all for the car" really did not resonate with me at all!
Sure, some bits are pretty easy to get still (eg shifter panels, foot pedals etc). But how they hell did you get NOS interior bits?! I found most of that stuff was NLA over 10 years ago. Surely you must have been collecting this stuff for some time?
I've got almost all of the interior switches brand new (the white labelling fades over time) but with interior, second hand RHD series 3 interior parts in decent condition are extremely hard to come by (with grey interior highly sought after), so it's a matter of restoration. The problem with the vinyl is that it's very hard to match the grain to the OEM spec and replaced pieces tend to stand out. Usually the better option for faded or ripped vinyl is to get it restored. There are specialists (at least down here in Australia) who can seamlessly glue vinyl rips (it's synthetic so can be done) and redyed with dye colour matched to the original. This preserves the original grain and refreshes the appearance.
There are some parts for which restoration is very difficult or not the same as OEM new old stock.
I'd love to know your NOS secrets. Feel free to tell me over PM! 8)

Im sorry i meant to say the oem parts as in the front end parts that were stolen were not too hard to find. As for the interior parts and all the other NOS parts. Ive been collecting them for the past 4 years as they came along.
Deff not easy to come across these parts but ive had the craziest luck. Lots of times you get hoarders that dont want to sell anything but money talks i guess you can say in those scenarios! Lol
Thanks for the tip on the seats im going to look into getting that seat fixed up the best possible. I have the vinyl from another seat so hopfully they can work somthing out!

Ah, I see. I've had some luck myself. One part I managed to find was the very last item in the warehouse in Japan and had been sitting there unsold for 30 years without any dealers ordering it from Mazda Japan.
If you have a section of vinyl from another seat, you are set.
Check out my log in my signature. Australian spec 84-85 models differ a lot being RHD (and all the RHD 84-85 models kept the SA style interior) but hopefully it's useful to you .

New shift bezel, window switch surround and sunroof seal.
Took a trip to the local paint shop for this interior/ vinyl paint. This is for the door cards and rear 1/4 panel interior panels. Deff couldnt find those new. All rx7 have the problem of those parts turning to a wierd brown color. Matched up a new burgundy part to the paint and should be good to go. Pretty pricey cost me $140 for this quart. Deff dont want to cheap out on this step.
