Damn man that really sucks. I wish I had more advice for you, but without being there looking at it I'd just be guessing...
Just to confirm, you checked:
-fuel pressure/volume?
-timing is roughly correct (have someone crank it over and check with a light, will give you an idea if you're in the ball park)
-Spark on all 4
-completely de-flooded and oiled chambers
-cranking at 250-275 rpm or so (not a weak battery etc)
-go over all wiring to make sure all the injectors are plugged in correctly etc

I don't have any experience with your ECU unfortunately. Is it popping or attempting to start at all, or just nothing?

Mazda RX-7 EFINI TYPE 07-30-13 11:30 PM

^^I'm sure you included this in "wiring", but just to specify, make sure you check all of your grounds. Also, just to give us an idea? Have you checked for fuel and/or spark?

Does this mean you're up and running???

82transam 09-24-13 08:37 AM

Great shots. Very Japan Touge vibe going on there

Thanks, I finally figured out my annoying partial throttle herky jerky motion that I had going on. My dashpot was not adjusted properly which caused my throttle plate to shut way to fast. During light throttle cruising the throttle body would open and close rapidly (like it couldn't make up is mind open or close) causing the car to surge shake. Last night I was tinkering with on the 7 and noticed this dashpot piece was not doing is job. Made a small adjustment and the result was a totally better driving experience.

notveryhappyjack 01-28-14 06:44 PM

2,000 miles on the rebuild and counting. Engine is running very well, I have boosted 15psi a few times, I need to address the boost control because it is supposed to be limiting boost and it isn't.

Burned out and replaced the trailing arm link bushings with poly ones, huge improvement!!! Also replaced poly bushings on the tension rods up front. Very happy with the results.

For the future I have new reman front brake calipers, new rotors, new pads, new brake master, new wheel bearings, new throwout bearing, new handbrake cables among other new parts waiting for install :)

ioTus 01-28-14 07:07 PM

Dude I need to get my car on the road so we can go cruise - where were those photos taken, Stevens, Hwy 2?

You were mentioning the throttle return dashpot being out and causing a poor ride - are you using the bypass air control valve as well as the dashpot, or just the dashpot? I've heard you really need either one or the other.

Geoff, I'm not sure

replaced the watts link bushings, all poly in the rear now.

Tonight I'm putting my new brake parts on :) For anyone wondering, the S5 tii rear brake calipers came with two casting numbers, 1313 (vented rear disk) and 1315 (solid rear disk) Don't let the autoparts store get you the wrong ones like they did to me 3x's.

So much planned not enough time to install it all...

notveryhappyjack 03-12-14 01:12 AM

New brakes installed. Finished at 3am last night, I realized I love Rx7 maybe too much & no one else thinks working on project cars until 3am is normal except seven guys. We ended up destroying my brake fluid reservoir when removing the master at mid night. Went over to a friends place and took a replacement off his parts gtu-s and installed on mine. Gotta love the sense of community we have

I have not spoken with insurance but I think it's totaled. One of my co workers managed to drive over the front of my car and destroy the front end. Car was parked in my office parking lot, I was not driving at the time. After work i came out to find it sitting like this.

What do you guys think? Anyone have good input on how to best have this covered by insurance? I have the insurance info of the responsible driver who caused this.

Jesus that sucks :( Whether it's totaled or not will really depend on the frame damage and how much needs to be replaced.

What kind of insurance do you have on the car currently, typical passenger auto ins or collectors? Has it ever been appraised? If so that could work to your benefit, since it gives you something to fight with. If not, it's "just" a 30 year old car to the other guys insurance company.

I wish you the best of luck man, I work at an insurance co and they can be a real bear, or they could be your best friend. Hopefully it's the latter...

ioTus 04-17-14 03:13 PM

nooooOOOOOOOOOOOOO!

You might be able to get away with fixing her up - new bumper struts, front bumper, headlight covers and shrouds, center panel, brake ducting, side fenders, and lower front air dam.

Huh- i just noticed, you have the brake ducting, but no brake duct intake holes on the lower air dam - is that a series 2? I'd swap out for a series 3 with the ducting

82transam 04-18-14 08:21 AM

Even if insurance does total it, make sure you can keep the car, even if it does get branded with a salvage title (not sure how it works in your state, in NJ that's what happens) Then fix it up. This is one of my favorite FB's on here, would hate to see it get scrapped :)

highnitro12187 04-18-14 11:51 AM

This is terrible, i cant even believe what im seeing, i would fix it and drive it round with a salvage title. you could always build another shell for it.

82transam 04-18-14 12:05 PM

Agreed, A salvage title isn't the end of the world, at least not in NJ.

craaaazzy 04-18-14 01:53 PM

man, sorry to hear about this. people suck.

anyway, if totaled, at least buy the car back for pennies. then you could always take the $ and look for another clean chassis and swap everything you have over. this could work in your favor if u wanted to build bigger, better, meaner car.

craaaazzy 04-18-14 02:05 PM

this looks fairly clean, no idea how much he's asking for it but you could always use the best stuff of either cars and sell what you don't need: 1985 Mazda Rx-7 GSL-SE

Dang he STILL hasnt sold that thing? I'ts been on craigslist for at least 2-3 months. Last i knew he was only asking $3,500 or something for it.

notveryhappyjack 04-18-14 04:56 PM

talking with a co worker who has 8 year xp working in a body shop as a adjuster. He seemed to think it will be around $3,000 for a professional job to repair it. In that case the vehicle will be considered a total loss. I will be keeping the car either way because I really like it, but definitely makes me sad, I try to laugh it off because there is bigger more important things in life but this certainly sucks. This car seems to be a magnet for good and bad, always an adventure.

cfamilyfix 04-18-14 10:29 PM

sorry to se that happened to your car. keep it for sure. its finally sorted.

woodmv 04-19-14 08:28 AM

That really sucks, but you're right - in the grand scheme of things it is a little bump in the road. Glad to see you're gonna keep it and fix it.

estevan62274 04-19-14 08:35 AM

Man that sucks, luckily it's not worse.
This is one of my favorite FB's on here.
Glad your keeping and fixing her back up.
