That car is coming along nicely!!! The only down side to the spray sound deadening is that if you did not thread bolts in the welded in nuts on the body, you may have to run a tap through the threads to ensure a smooth thread entry or a good ground if you need a certain spot for a ground. Otherwise, it looks awesome!!

Richard Miller 04-01-19 01:24 PM

I taped off threaded anchor points. I will be retapping anyways. 40 years is quite a run and it's probably due.

No pictures but a story. My GSL-SE engine came with a transmission. upon inspection of the engine I could not for the life of me understand why the car ended up at the wreckers. Since I am using a SA22c chassis and the transmissions are different from the 79/80 and the 81-85 and I gave my spare 5 speed to my son... I figured I would take the SE transmission and like Voltron combine it with the SA. Well the counter idle gear in the SE ate a bearing and tore the hell out of the bell housing. Complete garbage. I also had a 1984 transmission that came out of a GSL. I proceded to take the transmission housings apart. Leavng the gearing intact. Now, To swap the tailend from an SA transmisson to a FB gearbox you will need the Forks, Shift Rods and the "dogs" . Turns out that my shift fork for the 1-2 gear was out of spec by 1mm. Also as it turns out the 1/2 gear shift rod is identical between both SA and FB with the exception is one is threaded and the other a rolled pin. FYI, the 3/4 shift rod does not share the same simularity as the 1/2 shift rod. To fix this situation I needed the FB 1/2 fork on a FB shift rod that has been tapped to accep a SA bolt on Dog. I farmed the work to a local machine shop and after a few weeks they delivered exactly what I needed to have a in spec transmission. So today I assymbled the transmission and all gears and neutral functon as intended. I still need to put the front seal on but need to find the onion paper seal. With the transmission ready to go for the most part... I can now focus on the 13b.

the mostly finished transmission and a bit of epoxy paint on the non visible bits.

Was she talkin' smack about mine?!?!

I used "MetalCast" paint in smoke for the irons. The result is a slight translucent effect that has a vintage hammered enamel look like you would see on industrial gear from the 60s or 70s. It feels like a modern take on the old look.

toddk042 05-17-19 08:05 AM

Lol, no, I painted mine,

So my rear end was saved when I happened across a guy in my state parting out a SA22C. The copious amounts of moss led me to believe that the car has not seen action in a very long time. Both have been cleaned, one side has been polished. I hope you lichen the picture.

Engine is done-ish!!

The rotating assembly is all sealed up and makes some compelling Phtt sounds. I might be able to get the engine in this weekend!

Transmission looks great. Your car is going to be so cool.

Richard Miller 05-23-19 10:13 AM

Mostly done. Rear counterweight is on, I have yet to purchase the lightweight flywheel, But I have the counterweight installed. So that is going for me. Technically I still need to install the front cover and all the oil pump and front counterweight and other bits. maybe tonight.

What a beauty. It always amazes me just how small the engine actually is. Most of the engine bay is support stuff.

Richard Miller 06-01-19 11:05 PM

side project. but part of the over all goal.
