MA 1980 RX-7 wheel locks and can't turn the key

So, after 20 years in storage, me and my dad finally got my 1980 running again (Anniversary edition) and i've been driving it as my car. But basically, 1 out of 5 times i try to start the car, the wheel locks (like i can turn it an inch either way but then it just stops and is locked) and i can only turn the key half a centimeter.

I've heard this happens occasionally, and the only way to fix it is to basically "play with it" and eventually it will unlock but not as often as it is to me. I was wondering if anyone else has had this problem and if so, is all i can do is "play with it" or is there something i should get fixied or i can fix

Thanks

1st things 1st ur in the build threads this is only for full up build threads not questions. For questions post in the 1st gen specific forum or the 1st gen non technical forum.

Now that that is done whats happening is your wheel is locking from movement with the key not engaged. If u dont touch the wheel and its not locked u shouldent have a problem its just a safety feature. If it does lock there is usually a "sweet spot" that u move the wheel left or right and turn the key and it unlocks. Only way you can "fix" this safety feature would be to take the locking mechanism out (idk where it is) but when some1 tried to hotwire your car,,, wich is wayy easier than it sounds with a pair of dykes and not being color blind now they have full control of the steering of the car... aka i would def not disable it.

just my .02$
