So much Yellow

I really think John Renna is the best tuner to have his hands on my FDs over the years, period. And that's saying something, because some pretty damn good dudes have tapped on their keyboards riding shotty as I blasted down many highways from TX to NJ

Did Dan show up in Clunkers?

You know what? I didn't see what he drove there.
Blueberry farms was there. I was completely at ease with Johns tuning and methods. You guys give me some renewed confidence that the motor could be here to stay. The parts of the tune we worked on made the drive back home much smoother. It makes me inpatient to get the water inj and LIM installed so we can get the rest of the tune sorted out.
With the holidays almost upon us I just have to wait.

Lots of NSX's. One of the NSX owners said they were unveiling of the new NSX at an Acura dealer nearby and they were headed over together to see the 2017 model.

The RX-7 received a lot of positive comments at the cars and coffee. Chalk it up to a great day all around.

Ok I'm back to work on the car. While funds are limited around the holidays I did manage to eek out a much needed K&N filter for my GT35r turbo.
There isnt much room with the M2 large stock mount Intercooler. So I just have to go with what will fit. A screen is a last resort.

As you can see I only have about 2 1/2 inches to the corner of the Intercooler from the face of the turbo. There are even some radiator hoses that are close. I will just have to pinch that a little. I should probably make some chaffing protection for that hose so the filter doesn't wear a hole into the hose.

Going with this short filter. Just ordered it so let's see how it fits when it gets here on the 24th.

I will be interested to see how that filter does, my first reaction is that it will not have enough surface area is not enough.

Where are you tapped in for your oil feed?

From all the guys I've talked to that needed small filters and run on the dyno with and without the filter there was no difference in power. I do expect however that the filter will get dirty very quickly. If you can't tell, the compressor wheel has some nicks in it from the PO not running a filter. A new wheel isn't all that expensive. I will run it for the foreseeable future and at some point maybe consider one of the EFR turbos or have my compressor wheel upgraded to a GTX wheel and get the assembly rebalanced and rebuilt.

As far as the oil feed to the turbo; I haven't traced it to see. If I remember I will have a look and let you know.

I wonder if you could run a 45 or 90 off the turbo and put the filter next to your intercooler. Looks like there is enough room for that.

I had a filter a bit bigger than that on my turbo and when I swapped it for a larger turbo I actually saw more power on the dyno.

If this doesn't seem to work out I will have someone make an aluminum offset coupler and put a standard size filter on it.
There is a lot of info in this thread about different filter sizes and a few of the solutions people are using.
It's how I came across this filter.

Check the "performance parts" section at your local PepBoys. The one next to me has been stocking 4" aluminum piping with bends as well as the corresponding silicone couplers. You may be able to put something together for not much time or effort.

Looking for a 3 bar map sensor and I found the Apexi 3 bar map for the power FC at a stupid low price tonight.
$136 plus 7 shipping.
Looks like Christmas came early. I've never seen them this price.

So the air filter did not fit directly on the turbo. There are hardlines for the A/C just under the turbo that are in the way along with the radiator hose.

So plan B is to get a 45degree coupler or just look for an offset coupler or pipe to get next to the intercooler instead of trying to squeeze this tiny filter in that tiny space.
