The WillyWankel Assembly Thread

Hey guys, I just bought this 93 as a project car. Most of the major work has already been done. The motor has been rebuilt with a minor port job. The turbos have also been redone. The only bad part is the car came in boxes and I didn't take it apart. This makes putting it back together a little more difficult for me. Another problem is the p.o. was trying to redesign some stuff. I have to figure out what to keep and was to go back stock with.

THE CAR:

Boxes of parts are always fun. I'm in a similar situation but looks like you've got something good to start from.

What are some of the things the PO was trying to redesign?

He was rerouting a bunch of lines and converted them to AN / braided lines. Stuff like the power steering lines, AC lines, oil cooler...etc. He also bought a larger aftercooler and was designing his own ducting. The radiator brackets have been rewelded to drop the radiator down about an inch to give more room for the ducting. All the control arms have been smoothed and polished. He had a Davies electric water pump he was going to use, but I'm going back to a stock pump. He had a Canton oil filter too, but it was too tall to fit. He was designing a wedge to angle the filter adapter so the filter would fit. It looked like too much trouble so I put a regular filter on it.

Looks like a nice project you have there. There's a small group of cool/knowledgeable RX owners here in town, check out the local forum if you aren't on there already, should be a nice rotary showing at SA Raceway Fri night as well... alamomotoring.com

Finally made time to get some stuff done. Front suspension / brakes all tightened w/ lines installed. I installed the radiator. I had to modify the bracket just right so the fuse box had room to be mounted. Under the hood I replaced all the heater hoses. I bought a bunch of stainless socket head screws and replaced all the 10mm bolts. It looks a little cleaner.

I believe I talked to the previous owner of this car trying to buy it. Definitely a nice ride you got!
