Can't sleep so I was doing a little search on tie rod ends. Was thinking of upgrading to some aftermarket ones but can't find inner tie rods to match. Also being a 93 I would need the finer thread inner rod. I would hate to order an aftermarket rod to have to turn around and send it right back. Is my only option getting a hold of Ray @ Malloy for factory inners and outers? Megan and Godspeed both make performance tie rod ends. Is there an inner rod that would work for them? Searched online and the forums and haven't been able to find an answer.

Drift- yes, steering feel is going to be an issue. I don't want to go manual. My daily is a 3 series and I love that steering feel more than anything on that car. I have no clue if it's possible to duplicate or even get close.

I tried and was unsuccessful at finding ANYONE that has a 93 compatible thread inner tie rod. I managed a Firestone so I had accounts with all the local parts places (napa, AZ, o'reilies, carquest, ect) and NONE of them had the one I needed. Outer tie rods I believe they all had since I think the thread pitch is the same from 93-95. In the end I just got the OEM ones from Ray and have been extremely happy.

Nice build ya got going, can't wait to see it all finished up.

btw if you do start looking around one quick identifier that I've found between the 93 and 94/95 inner tie rods are where the ball joint meets the actual rod portion. The 93s are more squared/flat in this area like this:

and the 94/95s have a more rounded shape like this:

if that makes sense

Secret Element made Inner tie rods for 93's that gave some extra steering angle. I have a set on my car. There is a set in the classifieds now but im not sure if its for fine or coarse thread:

Drift - thanks for the link. Gonna look into those.

First real snow today. Makes me feel ok about having my car in the garage in pieces.

Got my first ordered item I got excited about. Just a shift **** so not much but it was the exact one I wanted.

Found a buyer for my turbo, manifold and wastegate so they had to go. This will start to get interesting after Christmas when I start ordering major components.

Merry Christmas everyone!

Christmas brought a couple odds and ends. Gotta love it when the fam knows what's up.

After doing some reading I decided to try the Ralco RZ short shifter. People had good things to say. If I end up not caring for it I will get my hands on a B&M shifter.

I work for a dealership so my parts manager talked me into trying these drive works outer tie rod ends. They were only $25 for the pair so I was skeptical but he insisted they use them in our shop and would buy me moog ones himself if they were crap.
My own little FD supercar build!-forumrunner_20140110_161302.jpg

Checked my inner tie rods and they were still good so keeping those.

Also stated stripping my calipers to refinish them. I'll post pics when they're done.

As usually it seems the only constant in life is change. My build plans have changed a bit and will continue to evolve. I am pressing to get up and running for a tune session in April. Found a great deal on a couple of tial 38mm wastegates. Set up a purchase of a T04z turbo, wannaspeed meth kit and aeromotive stealth 340 fuel pump. Going to need to do some exhaust changes but just trying to figure how I can squeeze 500ish HP and keep it from being incredibly loud. Only worried about noise when I'm cruising around town and at idle. I want it loud when I get in it so I'm dumping the gates. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

Should be repairable. Going to cut out a little bigger than the holes and weld in new metal.

Started to refinish the interior plastics. They were spray painted silver by the previous owner. I'm sure they looked good at some point but they had seen better days and weren't too my taste.

Just starting to strip the paint with acetone
My own little FD supercar build!-forumrunner_20140223_183307.jpg

Sanded down with 400 grit and prepped for paint
My own little FD supercar build!-forumrunner_20140223_183440.jpg

All done! Painted with Duplicolor flat black bumper coating as suggested by a how to thread on this site. I'm very happy with the outcome

Now to start the gauge bezel

Looks nice. I'm going for the same route. I had an M3 so I know how you feel. So I'm trying to go the VIP route with about 400hp. (Went with Burnout kit to get a little wider stance) My projects been on hold for 2 years though since I'm out of the country currently.

Coilovers really changed my handling. It is a bit stiffer though.

I understand what you are aiming for. After I sold my BMW E39 M5 daily driver, my FD RX7 did not stack up as a comparable daily driver, so I had to make some changes.

It is now at the point where it is at that good balance between luxury and sporty and it does not look ricey because I chose to stick to a "factory-but-better" theme.

Basically all the aero is 1996-onwards Mazdaspeed dealer option, nothing wild.
Wheels and tires are bigger, grippier and still do not rub or cause issues daily.
Interior is all factory black, with modern updates such as touch screen double DIN panel, bluetooth, USB and reverse camera.
More sound deadening in the doors. Some chrome highlights on the interior door pulls.
Fixed spare wheel cardboard cover to be more rigid, so things can be put in the trunk without falling into the spare wheel well, etc.

I like to think my RX7 is a bit more BMW-ish now, but with none of the awful German engineering or awful German build quality or terribly cheap materials they put in those BMWs...

Got the fuel pump in. Got it with hanger and all so I didn't have to bother fabbing it up myself.
My own little FD supercar build!-forumrunner_20140302_125827.jpg

Sanded and painted cover in trunk because it was oxidizing. Hopefully it stops the process.

Also just picked up my new turbo. Garrett t04z dual ball bearing twin scroll turbo.

Picked it up from boosted414 on here. He ran a t04z setup and was putting down over 500hp on a half bridge. My motor is street ported and I'm going to have to take it easy until I address the rear end and trans but I should still put down decent numbers.

Looks like every wire in the car was just twisted up and electrical tape was thrown on them. Time to solder all this crap up. Doors, radio harness, o2 sensor and some of the gauges.

Picked up a double din touch screen radio. The idea is to run Bluetooth and Pandora for music.

My own little FD supercar build!-forumrunner_20140308_002418.jpg

Used this kit from Abt electronics

My own little FD supercar build!-forumrunner_20140308_002540.jpg

Test fitted it into the dash before wiring along with the tunnel cover, refinished pieces and shift ****. I think it's looking good. Going to wait until morning to get better light and take a good picture.
