MN My first turboed car ;)

Hey there guys I have had my FD for about a month 1/2 now and I havent posted any pictures, and I have many plans for my FD and I figured I would start a post of my progress, now please know I am just a novice and learning as much I can so any advise is greatly appreciated.

This is the current body, I plan on getting a new bumper and fenders very soon.. I bought it with the white bumper.

This is the engine bay when I bought the car

First install of the intercooler

My car was getting really hot so I fabricated a intercooler duct and a cold air intake

Duct

Cold air intakes

And this is what it currently looks like right now.. My next step is to get a 90 Degree intercooler coupler for the where the piping meets the turbos, because I keep blowing my couplers and it makes my hood pop up a little...

Welcome! Looks like you are doing a good job of de-ricing it and taking care of potential issues. There is a great deal of info available here and some very knowledgeable owners.

Search before asking as chances are it has been answered before.

Good luck with your project!

That intercooler will be good for about .5 seconds of driving without a fully closed-off duct on it. Right now all the air going though the duct is just going out the top and into the engine bay, instead of actually going though the intercooler fins.

Fix that duct for that intercooler ASAP, otherwise it's pointless.

Keep up the hard work!

look like your taking the first proper steps with the car. i highly advise making a proper sealed off duct as stated by (Theorie) and relocating those intakes as you asking for water to be sucked into the turbos.

I drove like 50 miles yesterday with the duct... its honestly like night and day after putting on the duct like it is now... before you couldnt even set your hand on the intercooler for 2 long and it would burn you and now its ice cold... in the reguards of the intakes, this isnt my DD so what I will be doing is making a guard for the bumper so that when I get caught in the rain I will put the guard on and I should be fine.... oo and avoid large puddles :P oh and also this is just a temp job for the summer, I plan on finishing the body this summer and then when she is stored in my garage for the winter I will be redoing the fuel management & installing a Vmount intercooler & radiator well thats the plan at least. I also get the fun choir of redoing the V lines YAYA ha from what Iv read so far it isnt the most fun experience lol

you'll notice an even bigger difference if you close off the top of the duct, i promise.

good idea for the front bumper rain-shield, i've thought of doing something like that myself since i only have 1 oil cooler right now

You are in good hands now Shawn. Read everything you can. Going to Ricekillers tonight? Still haven't seen your car in person.

Bahahaha yes I am... Currently my consern is to make sure I am able to drive with out blowing up because it is a fresh rebuilt engine with only like 3500 miles on it, so I want to keep it healthy so I am just doing the free stuff first lol... I need to sell my other car first then im buying the new bumper & fenders and hopefully as long as OT keeps up ill be buying a new hood and headlights. I bought the car for 9200$ so I think I got a ok deal, and I just need to give it some more TLC and it will be one sick ride for sure

Lol I dont think any of you have noticed that by the intake filters my radiator over flow has a bolt in it! I had to temp fix it because the guy I bought it from smashed the front end I persume and poked a hole in it

Also im pretty sure you guys would of scream bloody murder if you would of seen how bad the headlights where wired up hahah... I salvaged them as much as I could... at least all my lights work now :P

Believe me I know what its like to have a "work in progress" car. Just try to have a sense of humor about the little things that will come up and you'll be just fine. Welcome to the boards.

I'm pretty sure I'm making a safe assumption that the car is on stock ecu/fuel? If the car has full exhaust( no cats) don't go WOT or the engine can and will blow.

It had full exhaust, but I put the stock mid pipe back in because I was detonating, and now the car runs perfect

I wanted the stock bumper from him.... but it was burried in his junk shead and smashed up so I told him to keep it ha. The funny thing even with a white bumper, where ever I go everyone thinks the car is just sick I love it and cant wait till I get the new bumper/fenders all painted.

MN Vmount!!

So I was Really busy this weekend! I installed my Vmount intercooler & the HKS ignition, I didnt have time to install the ECU ill do that this when I have time!

Rotory works Vmount intercooler/radiator

Rotory works elbo

PFC & HKS

Some pics of work in progress! This was after I had the old radiator & intercooler out!

Just the new radiator installed

HKS installed

Finished install!! I tell you that was a big job for me! Besides buying the Kit I had to buy all the bolts for it, and I had to fabricat 4 brakets to hold the radiator and intercooler, Lol I had to buy a Random radiator hose and cut it to shape, I removed the Fan wires from the wiring harness and Wrapped them with electrical tape & wire loomed them, When I opened up the wiring harness It gave me enough room to pull the Fuse box and put it on the opposite side of the bumper.

Overall I really happy with the Vmount setup and I cant wait to do more to my car

You need a sealed battery if you have it located inside the passenger compartment. It is very dangerous because of the fumes emitted from the battery while it is being charged.
