I made some aluminum tabs this morning and glued them in place. I'll see how they fit and how long they last once I install the headlight cover.

The RE-Amemiya AST looks great BTW. I installed it this afternoon and it looks very clean next to the intercooler. It really cleans up that area.

My First Build - Video Build Log

[quote=H_M]Thanks man.

I know. I hate how big Canada is, lol. I had my eye on a red NSX in Edmonton last summer but couldn't get the time to fly out and look at the car. I would have bought it if it would have been within a 10 hour .

[quote=H_M]

You should see the NSX meeting , there is a lot of interesting vehicle here , bikes , trucks , old school, hot rod , muscle , supercars... Simply jaw dropping

I'd love to do a drive through the Rockies and BC. I've seen some pictures of your car meets and they look crazy.

There are a few car shows around here in the summer. It's mostly older cars and muscle cars. I haven't been to any in a few years but from what I remember some of the cars are very nice. The import stuff is mostly Hondas with pink/green rims and stanced cars. There are very few imports that are well done but the good ones are top notch and very clean.

putting the high flow cat in. This took a little longer than I had thought. It was cold an all the rubber hangers were very stiff.

Got to work on fixing the headlight. It wasn't as easy as I thought. I want to get a feed headlight cover in the summer because the current one is pretty warped and does not sit properly. Even the new tabs don't let the headlight cover sit right because of the warping.

I also have to update the budget. Stage 1 is pretty much done. I still have to put new brake fluid in (already bought) and I want to replace the spark plugs. That should be everything to pass inspection and get the car road worthy for the summer. Stage 1 should be completely done by the end of February.

Stage 1: get everything running by spring
Budget $10,000
car $5500
Title transfer $735
Gauge cluster $158
Brake rotors 7 pads $300
Downpipe $100
Door handles $105
Apexi Intake $110
Koyo Radiator /RB Hoses/ Blitz NS exhaust $822
O2 Sensor $58
RE-Amemiya AST $178
High flow cat/midpipe $254
Two exhaust gaskets $54
Fluids $166
Remaining $1426

Now on to stage 2. I've already started buying things for stage 2. I purchased a set of Advanced Design coilovers from the forums. I'm still on the fence about the wheels. I'd like to purchase a set of used Enkei/ Advan/ Work rims but that's almost impossible in my area because of the tiny population. Most rims are 7" wide or lifted truck rims. I've been looking for four months and nothing that fits the bill has come up on the used market. I found one set of used Advan RG2 rims in Montreal for $1600 but I don't have time to make the 20 hour round trip.

If I have to buy new then I've narrowed it down to some RTX Stag (17x9 +38), Fast Hayaku (18x9 +35), Konig Deception (18x9 +15). Preferably, I'd like to stay with 17" rims because I think that 18" rims lift the car too much without a side skirts. Decisions decisions.

Stage 2: Wheels, tires, suspension, etc.
Budget $3000
Advanced Design Coilovers - $1075
Remaining $1925

Some things came in the mail this week.

Motive Brake Bleeder. This is thing is AWESOME! It made bleeding the brakes by myself so easy.

European adapter. This fits right on the brake reservoir without any adjustments.

New Spark plugs.

Sitting pretty.

I like this angle. It shows the body's curvy lines.

Video of changing the brake fluid.

We had a week-and-a-half of pretty cold weather here so not much has been happening with the car. I did manage to get some new spark plugs installed, though. Changing the plugs is a little awkward but definitely not a hard job.

The pipes in my kitchen also froze last Friday night. I left the heat on +15C the whole time that it was cold but I guess that's what a week of -30C will do. I spent some time on Saturday morning/afternoon thawing everything out. Still warmer than last winter.

frozen pipes. no water coming out.

I stuck a heater in there to warm up the pipes and melt the ice.

Finally! after a few hours the water returned.

Video of me changing the spark plugs. I went with someBUR9EQP for trailing and leading.

Got my improved racing sway bar links last week and installed them. I also finished securing the front brake lines to the coilovers. I couldn't believe how expensive the sway bar links were when I received them. They came in at $287 after exchange rate and exchange fees. This low canadian dollar is really putting a slow down on my build. I hope that the dollar improves in the coming months because I still want to buy rims, tires, and a Power FC, which are all rather expensive items.

We've also been having a very weird winter. We've been having days when it's +10C and then -20C the next day. Most of the snow is gone now, which is great compared to last year. Last year was one of the coldest, snowiest, and longest winters that the east coast has ever had. We had our last snow storm on May 30 and it took until July for the trees to bloom. I'm hoping that spring will come early this year and that I might even get to drive the car a bit earlier.

Improved racing sway bar links (pics courtesy of my potato phone)

Very easy to install. The Improved Racing sway bar links came with 1/2" bolts so drilling out the coilovers to 1/2" last time saved me a lot of time. I set them up to match the dimensions of the stock sway bar links.

Everything installed

And the video of the install and of securing the brake lines.

I'm not 100% sure yet. The car's not my biggest concern at the moment. This is the slowest time of year for me at work and our roof started pissing water recently. So, we want to get a new roof as soon as possible and we'll quite possibly need to rebuild the chimney as well.

We had been planning on replacing the roof and had some money saved but last May lightning fried our well pump and controller box. They had to bring in a crane to pull up 400' of galvanized steel pipe to replace the pump. That was a $4000 kick in the wallet.

A few things that I do want to do is to restore the head/tail/fog lights, weld a muffler in to the high flow cat (the exhaust is too loud), make a nice plate for the radio, and maybe get a Power FC and have the car tuned at the East Coast tuning meet.

Found out that my roof leak was coming from the chimney. The mortar looks really bad so we'll most likely have to tear down the chimney to the roof line and rebuild it from there. Really not what I wanted to find out and I hope that I'm wrong. Now it's looking like, we'll need to redo the roof and the chimney in the spring. We were planning on getting a new roof this year and had been saving but last year our well pump got fried from a lightning strike and cost $3800 to replace, which took all of our roof repair savings to get done. We have some money saved up again but it won't be enough to cover both the roof and the chimney.

With that news, the RX-7 is going to take a back seat. I'll continue to do small things on the car but it'll be slow going from here. However, everything is pretty much ready for inspection in the spring and I shouldn't have to do anything else to the car in order to pass inspection and drive it this summer. About a month ahead of schedule.

We're also dog-sitting my aunt-in-law's family's dog this week. It's a five (or six) month old Pit Bull. It's a nice dog with tons of energy.

picture of the doggy

I also tied up some loose odds & ends on the car this week. I fixed the broken power mirror controls, dash lights, and checked some fluids.

Ownership is great but it can be a kick in the ***** sometimes. The guy's build thread you linked in the brake bleeding video is pretty incredible. Great looking pup.

I knew that home ownership would come with it's downfalls but we've had two years of the worst luck. I hope that our bad luck will be over after we get the roof / chimney done, haha.

Here's a little recap of what has happened. Since we bought the house 21 months ago:

We bought the house June 2014. Two weeks later we had a huge hurricane came through that took down a lot of our trees. We had 150 year old spruce trees snapped in half and a lot of trees uprooted. We lost about 12-15 trees just in our front yard alone. We never ever get big storms here and this was a full blown hurricane. The last "tropical storm" that went through here was in the 1950's. Our city was right in the middle of the hurricane and 2/3 of the city was without power for over a week.

In the fall the roof started to leak. I caulked the chimney and the leak stopped. Then winter came.

Last winter was the worst winter that Eastern Canada has EVER had. I'm talking about 8' (feet) of snow at the lowest with most places reporting 10-12'. That's snow on the ground. The total snow fall amount was 14-16'. My house had snow to the roof and my garage had a snow drift that was over 11' high. I was snow blowing my driveway 2-4 times a week. It took until June for the snow to fully melt. We had a snow storm on May 31. It was also the coldest winter EVER. We had six weeks where the temperature didn't climb above -30C and nights were -35 to -40C.

In May, lighting hit just outside of our house. It fried the well control box and the pump. They had to bring a crane in to lift up the pump out of the well. It was attached to 400' of galvanized steel pipe.

In the fall, the roof started leaking again. It was already too cold to put a new roof on so I went up and patched as much as I could on the "warmer" days.

Now I found out that the chimney needs to bre repaire/replaced too.

I was looking back through some pictures of last winter and found these ones. Last winter was pretty crazy because it was so cold and so snowy. This winter has been crazy too because it's been so warm and we've barely had any snow.

The two pictures are taken almost one year apart

March 2015:

March 2016 (Same garage with barely any snow at all):
