My 94 Fd Build (so it begins)
#58
Well a dream I had my entire life turned into a complete nightmare. 2 years and about 50k later I am left with a blown motor and nothing but regret. I am not going to give my "opinion" on what happened due to legal reasons but i just want the forum to take a look at the invoices, everyone can come to their own conclusions. Motor blew before I ever drove the car while being tuned on their dyno.

They accepted no responsibility and even charged me for the dyno time when the motor blew! I was told 10-15k for a rebuild with absolutely no timeline to finish because new motors "dont exist" so i decided to remove the car from the shop and go elsewhere. Currently a NEW engine is being broken down and built but they have run into nothing but problems from the old shop. Crushed AC components, Home Depot plumbing fittings, lines capped with bolts etc The new shop stripped the motor and told me the reason it detonated was because the front ignition coil wasn't grounded properly.

The new shop will take care of business for you and you'll be able to take the car home with confidence. Again, I'm so sorry to see that you got taken for a ride by that synaptic shop.

At least the second shop shows you know what a real invoice should look like. "Engine R&R" + cost and that's it. You don't need a detailed list of which nuts were removed in what order and when you scratched your butt. They are presenting information overload so customers stand there like a dumbass when they try to make a case.

Again I am in no way shape or form telling people what to do im just informing a community thats been nothing but great to me. Below i have also copy and pasted the E contract I agreed to. As you can clearly see i was also charged 5$ more an hour for two years =(
Our billing policy: we bill weekly for work completed each week. The shop rate is $135hr and we are an hourly/ time and materials based shop. We are NOT a flat rate shop. If you purchase your parts through our shop we give a discount on the labor, your rate would be $115hr. All invoices are due immediately upon receipt. All parts are paid in full prior to ordering, shipping charges will apply at time of procurement.
We accept cash, checks, and all major credit cards. If you choose to pay with a credit card you will add a 3% convenience fee.
Vehicle Storage:
If you require your vehicle to be stored inside you must make arrangements with us. Most vehicles are $150/m to be stored inside, otherwise your vehicle will be kept outside in our parking lot.
Any completed vehicle left on the premises after 3 weeks will incur a storage charge of $35/per day. Unless prior arrangements have been made for inside storage.
Please reply to this e-mail stating that you agree to the above terms and authorize us to work on your vehicle.

Flat rates usually benefit the shop because the Mitchell/Whatever guides are already very generous. If it's time and materials then it should at least be at an honest rate. Anybody can look at those line items and easily tell they are overstated by at least double - in some cases triple. I mean seriously - 24 hours of labor to pull subframe and diff for a blast and paint? That must include drying time. .
